After several days of searching I've decided that my new laptop purchase will be a Sager 5791 from XoticPC. However, I've got some serious questions and I don't know where else to get the answers. I'm a U.S. Army Infantryman and I've been in Afghanistan for the last 7ish months, so I'm really behind on all things PC.

I don't know which version of Windows to get. I've heard that XP is faster now, and has less problems. This is good because here in Afghanistan I don't have a lot of Internet access so it's a pain in the ass to get drivers and stuff. However, I don't want to make a mistake that I'll regret down the road. This laptop is going to be my primary gaming system until about September 2008. Will I be regretting sticking with XP then? I want to play UT3, Crysis, Hellgate: London and all the rest in style. Will XP Pro get this done for me? Especially considering that I'll be running on a 7950 GTX instead of a 8700GT?

I just don't know which Windows to get. Please help!

Personally after a 6 month struggle with Vista I have finally gone back to XP. Thus I would have to say stick with XP for stability and performance right now, maybe once SP1 for vista is release next year vista will be ok, but until then its one of the worst os I have used in years.

Thanks for your insight, underpantman. I just wonder if I'll regret it when Crysis comes out...

I asked for XP to be put on my system. After a year, THEN I will upgrade to Vista.

I just didn't want the hassle of possibly having to install drivers for products I know already work on my current XP systems. Also, for gaming, it seems to perform better too.

Sounds like XP it is then... which means a 7950GTX instead of a 8700GT. Works for me. :)

    Thanks a ton!

Just to be safe go with XP, since you'll have limited access to internet in Afghanistan and it's pretty important that you get all latest graphic card drivers and vista updates for windows, some updates for vista actually DO increase performance of the OS, so stick with good old XP, Crysis will run fine on it.

    PS: Have fun there.
