I am currently using 2006 on my desktop and it sucks and a big memory hog. However I am getting my laptop soon and I am wondering if I should install 2007 on it. Now I have heard that the Norton Internet Security bundle is really bad so i am def not gonna get that. Windows firewall is good enough for me. But just the anti virus 2007 doesnt seem to bad and CNET reviews said they had recode it and made it use less memory. Any had any experience with NAV2007?

Also how much of a risk would it be to just have the windows fire wall and router and NOT have an anti virus at all? I never download any risky programs so is my computer still at risk from viruses? Hackers should be able to get thru the firewall rite!?

Norton 07 is definately a step in the right direction. It uses much less memory, and is lighter on the computer. However, if you don't need the user friendliness of Norton, get something else. While Norton is great at detection, there are better alternatives that are even lighter and faster. Check out Kaspersky or NOD32.

If you are comfortable with Norton, and want to stick with it, get 2007. It's not bad.

You really need to have antivirus protection, in addition to the firewall.

Firewalls won't protect your from spam email that may contain a virus. There are free antivirus programs that work well (such as AVG). Norton 2007 antivirus will be fine. Any antivirus software is better than none.

ya i know their are many lighter progs than norton and i dont need all the fancy interface norton has. except that i can get norton subsciprtion for free so if 2007 is a lot easier on the memory i will go ahead and jsut get that i guess.
If anyone has bad exp with NAV2007 let me know

If your looking for a free AV, I have found Avast! keeps up with defs nicely compared to AVG
I use CA AV for my x86 desktop (but the new suite is not as nice as when they had it standalone)
NOD32 for my x64 boxes, but also great for x86
All three are great AV's that dont use that much in resources and daily def updates

I like NOD32 as well.. not so much of a resource hog like Norton.
