I've been using Norton Ghost for years and have not had a problem with it. However, I'm hearing more and more buzz about Acronis TI on many forums including this one. What do you think are the pros and cons of each program and which one do you prefer?

I moved from Norton Ghost to Acronis because of the fact that Norton became heavier over the years. I prefer light and fast programs (and easy to remove :) ) that's why I abandoned all Norton products (Norton Antivirus is the worst, IMO), MS Office, etc.
But if you are fond of NG, - no reason to abandon it. Acronis will offer the similar features and reliability.

That's good to know. I've never used Ghost to clone a drive. I'll have to check to see if that is possible. Otherwise, Acronis may be the better option.

Acronis has 15 days of tial period, IIRC. So you might want to give it a try and see if you like it more.

I just found out that Ghost CAN clone drives but I think I may "try" Acronis to see if I like it any better. Ghost has definitely saved my butt a few times!

I still use Ghost 2008, because it is VERY light and can exist on a dos diskette.

But it has some issues seeing my external firewire drive. Acronis does a good job with that. So I use both under various circumstances.

im in love with acronis true image. my asus laptop originally came with windows vista. so i installed windows 7. this went fine but getting all the drivers to work was tricky. once everything was working i made a backup with acronis and in 10 minutes i can have everything reinstalled back at default. i thought that was rather quick considering you cant even install windows in that time. no more taking hours if i got to start all over again. plus i seperate my drives. c has my operating system and d has my recovery file on it and all my stuff. so i can reinstall as many times needed and my main stuff is never affected and i get a fresh start with windows any time i want.

I've been using Ghost 2003 for over five years. Still works great for my simple needs.

Like most things computer related, there doesn't seem to be a clear winner here. Most reviews on Amazon are less than favorable for BOTH products!

Personally, I love Ghost 15.0 but I am intrigued by all of the talk around Acronis and will definitely give it a try. Is there anything one program can do that the other can't?

If you guys are talking about the most unbloated recovery software then Drive Snapshot beats both Ghost and Acronis period.

I'm starting to see the value of partitioning your drive. Restoring your c:drive in just 10 minutes is AWESOME! It takes me 2 hours to restore my entire drive because everything is together. If you restore your c:drive from your Acronis image, you will still have to reinstall all of your programs and customized settings, right?

Not if you create the image AFTER you install the programs and customized settings.
