Use the Norton Removal Tool. Norton's actually so clingy to computers that Semantics Lab had to make a special uninstaller just for its products.

Yeah but there are many remnants of it in your system therefore Symantec has released the Norton removal tool to get rid of it all.

Uninstall via Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs, then finish it off with the Symantec Removal Tool.

Wouldn't it be easier just to use the removal tool first and be done with it?

I always prefer to let the OS do what is is supposed to do before I run a tool to fix the problems left behind because the application does not follow the rules.

The rules that Microsoft sets down for any application that wants to carry an actual Windows logo on the package or website. The rules are very simple. The one in question here, is that every app must uninstall ALL traces of itself from the system, including the registry. The only exception to this is user data may be left behind IF it can be reused on a subsequent reinstall of the application. Somehow Symantec has gotten a pass on that rule. Not sure how.

Yeah. Those rules. Actually, they are not rules, per se, but guidelines for playing nice with others.

No, just decided to not play well with others, or didn't know how to initially, so had to come up with a post uninstall cleanup process.

Why don't they just incorporate it into new versions of their software?

To display the Windows logo on the application packaging they are rules. When you submit your application to Verisign, it's one of the tests that they run.

We did our certification a couple of years ago, so maybe the rues have changed but I don't think they have.

Well it appears you have to be logged on as the supervisor & I don't have the password for it.

With the uninstall? Then use the removal tool. If you can't use that then you know that google can help you get that supervisor status.
