I deleted my linux partitions on my laptop in order to make some space to play with Server 2008 so I can eventually use that as my primary OS. Well ... that didn't work so well.
When I boot, I get Grub error 17.
Trying to go into the vista CD I've tried the repair startup option with the CD and it doesn't help. I've also tried going into the command line and hit fixmbr and fixboot but those commands can't be found.

try putting the commands below into the command line.
first:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr
D:\boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force
second:
del C:\boot\bcd
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd
If this works it will tell you and then you can just restart and vista should boot. Let me know if this helps -
I think Vista does fixmbr a little different. This Microsoft support page looks promising:

That worked! But I have a strange problem now ...
My OS C: partition is now V: and Windows ain't liking that too much. I'm typing this right now from it but I think a reinstall is coming. Maybe Server 2008 as my Main OS.
