How can I tell the Windows not to stretch the resolution when I lower from wide-aspect 1280 x 800 to 1024 x 768 or other 4:3 res? I want black bars in sides and non-stretched image in the middle.

I see you have the same videocard as me. So go to Control Panel, Screen settings. Then click on Advanced: Go to Catalyst Control Center and go to your screen options. You can choose:

    Scale image: maintain aspect ratio
    Scale image: full panel size
    Use centered timings

You must select the last one. Hope I helped you.

You want the maintain aspect ratio one, not the "use centered timings". That one just doesn't stretch at all. He's talking about not having it stretched sideways at all with the widescreen vs. standard aspect issue.
