Ok, i have a compaq presario r4000 CTO model, and lately its been hanging for a sec after it passes the compaq screen on startup, then it would take long to load windows, So i go to reinstall XP Home w/ the disks given, and it goes as usual, loading up the installer just fine. When i go to format or install, halfway through it will just throw the power off. Any ideas why this is happening? I'm pretty sure its past its Software warranty (30 days on compaq notebooks) and i've had it a little over 30 days, any ideas as to why this is happening or how i can fix it? cant call compaq untill the morning and i REALLY dont want to pay to have it fixed

EDIT: Battery is fully charged and notebook is plugged in properly. Uninteruppted battery backup power supply

It may be having trouble accessing the disk or it could be a RAM problem, there are a lot of possibilities here. I doubt it's a software issue, I'd call support and get them to walk through the process with you.
