I have the latest versions of Notebook Hardware Control and SpeedFan installed on my notebook. Though they report the same temperatures for the hard drive, the CPU temperatures reported are different. Plus, the difference is not always the same; sometimes one is higer than the other, vice versa, and sometimes they report the same. What gives? Which one is correct?
My only guess is that they each detect the hard drive sensor but one program detects another sensor and reports it as the CPU temp, and the other detects yet a different sensor and reports that as the CPU temp. However SpeedFan detects no other sensors. Oh, SpeedFan reports the sensor as ACPI.
I have an Empower ENP420 in which I have upgraded some of the components with parts from my dead Toshiba - hard drive (60GB 7200RPM), processor (Pentium M 725), memory (added 512mb), and Intel 2200BG wireless card.

One possiblity, considering that speedfan reports the ACPI temp, is that speedfan is reporting the temp on the heatsink and NHC is reporting the temp on the processor die itself. I'm pretty sure ACPI refers to the processor fan/heatsink. I also know that some heatsinks can report the temp and some can't (3 vs 4 pin). I also know that the processor has the capability of reporting its temp. I believe that is correct, but I don't know for sure.
