Not sure if anyone encounter similar problem with AVG anti-virus when it does automatic update. My notebook hangs every single time when AVG does the update. The only way I can fix it is to disconnect the power supply. Is it something to do with the setting of the software/notebook? Anyone has any suggestion?

I'm also using Trendmicro PC-cillin 2006. Will try a clean un-install/re-install of AVG as suggested to see if that resolves the problem.

You may have a virus or something hooking into AVG trying to prevent it's updates. Any idea if that's possible? Can you use something like McAffee's online scanner to double-check? I've never had that issue with AVG, and I've installed it on at least 15 separate machines.

I frequently scan my notebook using PC-cillin, as well as AVG. No virus is found so far. My notebook hangs not during downloading of AVG updates , but rather, during the installation of such updates. When the machine hangs, I have to disconnect the power. When the system is up again, the updates are there, installed. So I don't really know what happened.

I have re-installed AVG. Will see if the problem persists.
