    Recording in here.

I don't really know where the sounds come, it is just extremely loud that everyone around me really notice the sounds. My notebook is SONY VAIO VGN-SZ440N13, like in my signature.

Any ideas on why my notebook making such sounds and how to stop it? Thanks. :)

This was for my old dell.
But when I had a CD inside like my game. The disk drive was making a lot of noise.

Even though I wasn't using the game. But I don't think that is your problem.

I vote with the other 2 guys.

    Fan !!!!

Sounds like a faulty fan to me.

By the way, do you hear this as soon as you turn on the laptop? Or only when there are activity on the HDD?

Farbeit from me to gainsay the current consensus; however, I'd also consider running a diagnostic on the HDD as well to check the SMART data to see if there's any indication that the drive is failing.

i don't think the hdd has enough clearance to make anything but grinding noises.

    Thanks for the answers. :)

My DVD drive is empty. So I hope it is truly out of the possible reasons.

According to HD Tune, there is nothing wrong with the hard drive (I ran the error scan and the Health Status is also Ok). What is SMART data and how to check?

No, it just suddenly happens. I don't know, I was just using the notebook, browsing (FF3), music (foobar2000), chatting (Digsby), checking my Dad's comp (Radmin). This is the sound when I just turn on the notebook.

    What gas?

If this is sound of the fan, what makes it sound like that and how to fix it?

if it is a fan it can be a number of things, something maybe loose in it, there may be something caught in there. maybe you should remove whichever fan you think is causing it and run it externally to see the problem. other then that i can't suggest much other then a service center.

So do you get this all the time now?

About the fan, there are few possibilities. For example, if it's loose, the vibration will cause some noise, or if one of the fan's blade accumulated more dust than others, it will be off balanced and can also cause some noise. Another possibility is if the fan's bearing went bad.

SMART data is what got checked with HD Tune (basically, it's a standardized format for hard drives to report back certain operating parameters and other "health" indicators).

So, next step would be to crack this puppy open and visually inspect the fan, looking in particular for dust/dirt/grime, and to otherwise clean the inside out thoroughly while you're at it.
