    Hey there

I've noticed something that I wouldn't expect to see normally in Task Manager.

I have 5, yes 5, explorer.exe processes running all under my accounts name and they all use varying amounts of memory and all have different PIDs.

All I've got open is task manager, winamp and 4 stardock desktopx widgets.

Is this normal in Win 7 RC 1? Has anyone else got this many explorer.exe processes?

No, that is not normal. Only should have 1 explorer.exe running. What is that stardock desktopx? Close that, then check task manager.

EDIT: And you were the one in the os forum who has slow problems, windowblinds and that stuff is heavily bloated. i suggest manually paatching your theme files if you want a custom theme. Windowblinds is not the way to go.

do you have 'launch windows as separate processes' enabled in your system-wide folder properties?

How about seeing if stuff works normally before you starting installing all your weird applications that might not be compatible with Windows 7?

Yeah I had a slowdown issue in XP which is now solved, or appears to be and Vista was generally sluggish, probably because it was the 32bit version.

No such issues in Win 7 so you bringing that up is irrelevant. DesktopX is an app that runs widgets, which are pretty much the same as M$s new desktop gadgets, funny how M$ keep "borrowing" ideas...

I did and it all appeared to be working normally. But thanks for that sage piece of advice.

Don't know I'll have a look, I do know that I didn't have any windows open though.

It's not a major issue as it doesn't seem to be impacting on performance and Kaspersky, Spybot and other apps I have don't find any malware. It's just something that's bothering me as I was also under the impression only 1 explorer.exe should be running.

EDIT: nope I don't have 'launch windows as separate processes' enabled.

I'm thinking that when I did have explorer windows open and I then closed them the processes remained running.

Ok so I did some further testing and on startup I only have 1 explorer.exe process. But sometimes when I've had a window open the explorer.exe process it uses (although I don't have "launch windows as seperate processes" enabled) stays running.

Don't know why though. Very odd, guess it's a bug Microsoft need to resolve.

It's a bug that seems fairly exclusive to your machine, raven. You might try submitting a bug report. I'm not seeing this on either my x64 desktop or my x86 laptop.

Hmm odd. I'll submit a bug report then seeing as no-one else seems to be having this issue.

Currently I've got 2 explorer.exe processes running, no sign of malware though and I don't recall opening an explorer window today at all.

Build 7100 downloaded direct from MS, correct, Raven? (builds past that & from certain torrents have been known to have malware/trojans)
