I have a laptop with Nvidia Optimus technology (a GT650M and Intel HD graphics 4000). I want to play HD videos with DXVA on it using Media player classic (MPC). However I cannot turn on the GT650M using Nvidia control Panel for MPC. The drop down menu against MPC is greyed out with Intel graphics as the unchangable option, consequently I cannot enable DXVA in MPC. Is there a way around this ??

Try another player. MPC-HC or VLC or SMPlayer.

There really isn't any need to use DXVA when you have a recent enough CPU (Core 2 Duo or newer with reasonable clockspeed).

It will only create more heat and waste battery life, which is perhaps why Nvidia Optimus doesn't let you change the setting from Intel to Nvidia.

But last time I checked, MPC-HC's DXVA for Intel GPUs was borked. If so, just disable it and use the inbuilt software decoder. You won't notice the difference otherwise.

If you really want to use DXVA in MPC-HC, maybe it's possible to override the Optimus default setting if you rename the mpc-hc.exe and add it manually.

I have a core i7 3610QM processor. Does DXVA give better graphics quality on movies ?? I thought of using it only because of that. If there is not change in graphics quality it is fine for me

If you do not know for sure, do not write anything. Intel HD intergrated video cards can't play HD. And "HD" in this case means that these cards do not play any HD videos. Do not F... with people, for that have employes certain companies which posting this spam commercial.

I never told in my previous posts that Intel HD 4000 cannot play HD. I just wanted Nvidia to play them. However since you have pointed this out i will add my observation. Whenever I put MPC in DXVA with Intel HD 4000 and play a HD movie, it just shows a black screen. Doesnt that mean that it cannot play HD videos ??

Just disable DXVA. You are not missing out on anything.

For more information, could you please tell me what items are listed in the Play->Filters menu when you have the video open in MPC-HC?

wait, serious? good thing you're just passing through.

the "HD," in the context of a high definition movie, connotes that you are viewing a video at a certain resolution. examples of high definition resolutions include 1280×720, 1920×1080 (aka FHD or full high definition), 3840×2160 (aka UHD or ultra high definition), and up. in other words, while there's no single definition for high definition, it indicates that you're viewing a finer resolution than older standard definition resolutions.

all of this obviously has nothing to do with your integrated graphics adapter, which just so happens to be named intel HD graphics, or what it can or cannot process from a technical standpoint. i would consider trying divx player or MPC-HC (both freeware).
