    okay what drivers are you using?

    Have you tried pressing F8 when windows loads and going safe mode?

    You just have to update your drivers then.

    You can download it from your laptop's website or

    Go to www.laptopvideo2go.com and choose vista32 and download 169.09. You have to download the modded .inf and overwrite it

    Have you been able to solve the problem? I have the same issue with my DV6560EL (8400M GS). The screen corruption starts as soon as I download some updates from Microsoft after the installation of SP1.

    I tried several driver versions, but still the problem exists.

    I'm running XP now just to verify the video card is ok. I started to think of a hardware problem, but I see you have the same issue.

    I have no problems if I use the plain SP1 without the latest updates.

    So you cannot go back to the video driver it came with?

    @montezuma...which update, specifically is causing the issue. It should be fairly simple to pinpoint.

    If you cannot roll back to your original driver, try going to laptopvideo2go.com and downloading driver from a trusted notebook manufacturer, not from game makers or overclockers.
    I use 167.43 by Sony even though my notebook is by Compal.

    In future, if Vista Update offers an NVidia driver - it's not a bad idea to ignore and block this update. It made my notebook to not resume from sleep and caused other problems for other users.

    I just restored my image with Vista32 + SP1 and all the updates worked fine. The laptop has not shown any weird things on the screen so far. I'm running Nvidia Forceware 169.28 from Tweakforce.

    I tried to run 3DMark2006, but I'm not able to complete the benchmarks and anyway the partial results seem to be low at defaults (1280x800) even for a 8400M GS:

    3dMark = 308
    SM2.0 = 202
    HDR/SM3.0 = N/A
    CPU = 1712

    The benchmark stops making the drivers crash.

    PcMark2005 graphics gives me 2087. Last week I wasn't even able to complete this one. I'll keep trying.

    Could you suggest me something? I have to understand if the hardware is good or not. I don't need performance, but I want to be sure the laptop is not broken.

    Thanks.

    Hi guys.
    Sorry,for late post.
    Honestly, I have been busy.
    I have actually reinstalled my vista. But the prob now is if I want to get the update to SP1 I have to install the update for the nvidia driver.And when I update the driver, I'll get back to the problem.It's been quite frustrating..
    At the mo, I just use my dekstop................
    Could it be because of hardware problems?
    Can I get to SP1 without to install the update for the nvidia?...

    .....thanks guys.

    After I have installed the nvidia update, the next time I check on the Windows Update, then only the update to SP1 available.

    Mine is nvidia 8400M GS, if in the list supported driver does not have my driver but 8400 GS, can I still use that driver?

    You can try hiding the NVIDIA video driver update in Windows Update instead of installing it. Once you hide it SP1 should appear.

    rightclick the nvidia update in the Windows Update screen and choose "hide update"

    then search again for new updates, hopefully SP1 will show up now
