OK - I'm a little confused by this and have a few Q's.

    1. If I purchase Vista Home Premium OEM can I simply install it in my current Vista ready notebook?

    2. Will I get a CD so that If I need to reinstall it on my laptop I can do?

    3. If I purchase a new laptop in 2 years can I simply install this on my new laptop?

    4. It is cheaper than a standard version - why? is it missing anyhting?

    What are the general pros/cons?

    Many thanks :)

    Just avoid Basic, they sux...

    1. Yes you can.

    2. If you purchase Vista Home Premium, i think u ll get a CD/DVD for sure.

    3. Yes you can, provided you don't use the old one anymore, you can only use 1 with 1 computer, but i wonder if u never put the other machine online, would they know or not..

    4. U meant Vista Ultimate? I think it is crap.. since i dun even know what the extras are for.

    Pros:
    U get macs in windows.

    Cons:
    Expensive
    Becoz it's windows?

    1. Yes, of course.
    2. Is this a trick question? hehe. Yes, of course.
    3. Yes, but you need reformat the old laptop's HD before trashing.
    4. Are you sure? Basic edition is cheaper then Preimum.

Umm..If I remember correctly you can't transfer your license with the OEM version. That's why it's cheaper. With the full boxed version you can transfer the license but you can't with OEM or upgrade.

OEM EULA explicitly state that you can't transfer the license to another PC. They are tied together =/

I talked to a Microsoft rep. When you install Vista OEM on a machine...the license for Vista DIES with that machine. Example, I have a Dell E1505. I intended to put Vista OEM Home Premium on it. The copy of Vista that gets installed on my laptop stays with it until, either the machine dies or I sell it. At that point, I would transfer the Vista OEM with the machine.

It is cheaper because the OEM license states that the license is only good on the one machine and is NOT transferrable. Not a bad deal if you think about it. You can replace parts...but if you replace with a different motherboard...you may have to call and explain to reactivate

Thanks for this guys. I may purchase this.

My laptop which I would install it on is brand new so I'll have it for 2-3 years and by this time when I buy a new comp it will come with Vista for FREE anyway!

Sounds like a good deal to me :)
