Mine wasn't 2gb, it took about 30 min total, install and everything (along with installing 2 other updates)

Didn't fix the nonrefreshing desktop issue though. Sad, that's the only issue I have.

Actually, that's a good point: Indeed, for me at least, SP1 did not fix any of the issues I had with Win7, either. It may have fixed lots of non-issues, though...

So, yes, Explorer still does not properly refresh folders in Libraries when I have the files sorted by date, Explorer still opens in the background most of the time, and its tree view still has the annoying property to suddenly scroll up under my cursor once the network locations have been refreshed. Oh well, I didn't really expect any noticeable fixes anyway. I have never seen any Service Packs do much good. On the plus side, they usually don't do any damage either.

Well, Driver Sweeper and DriverCleaner.net deleted some built-in drivers. A combination of "sfc /scannow" and the update readiness tool helped me narrow down what packages were missing. Then, it was a simple process of extracting the packages from my Windows 7 DVD. Luckily, each damaged package had 1 or 2 files in them so when I compared dates and versions, they matched exactly what was on the DVD.

Same here, exact same thing I had to do. It was a bit of pain and a problem that shouldn't have been. Needless to say I won't be using Driver Sweeper ever again, even if the issue is fixed within the software.

It finally showed up for me today...I'm in Panama atm; so I guess that was the cause for my delay. Check Windows Update now...i'm running 7 Enterprise 64Bit on my notebook. About to download and install.

Still can't find it using Windows Update, any ideas?

Ive downloaded a 300mb tool from Microsoft (the february version) that checked the computer to fix problems for future updates and service packs but it still wont show up in Windows Update.

Have you installed all the previous updates?

It happened to me that I hidden once an update for windows, and without install that at first, I wasn't able to see the SP1.

oh 'fer Ghus Sake. This is so easy as to be less than trivial.......

Do a search for kb976932. That is the kb article that will lead you (by the nose) directly to the download pages for the SP1 installer. Don't go to any of the popular download sites, get your MU installers from MSFT ONLY.

When there, you could choose to download the 2Gb .iso image that contains the installers for IA64, AMD64, and x86. Or you can pick the individual (and smaller) installers you want/need for each CPU architecture. I grabbed the .iso because it made for an easy download and I have all three of the installers 'just in case'.

Yes, you want to d/l the complete installer to your machine before running it. Installing a 700Mb update over the web isn't a good idea.

Before running the SP1 installer/updater, be sure that your machine is otherwise 100% up to date including device drivers and all pre-SP1 updates. 'unhide' any updates you've manually hidden from MU. Make sure that your licensing for Windows is 100% legit. Stop or deinstall any programs that might step on or interfere with an upgrade such as anti-virus or malware proggys. Stop any unneeded background tasks such as Boinc/Seti.

^^^ Wipe out your files? No, but it's always a good idea to have some form of backup just in case something goes wrong during the update.

So did SP1 have ANYTHING that wasn't already included in previous security updates?

2/3 of the fixes in SP1 are unavailable by any other means.

There is a spreadsheet freely distributed by msft which lists all 600+ fixes cross-ref'd by KB number.

    +1, newsposter.

Yes, that is correct. You have to install SP1, in order to install all hotfixes not released through Windows Update. Some of these hotfixes provide minor performance improvement. In short, if your Windows stays updated till now, it is still not Windows 7 SP1, unless you install SP1 on it.
