This is regarding my dad's Advent 9115 laptop, a brand sold through PC World in the UK.

Since installing SP1, which I've now removed via System Restore, I get this box appear when started up saying osd 'lag' with an exclamation mark. What's this about, as I've not seen it on other computers? It didn't happen before sp1. The laptop has 2gig RAM, 120 hd, a dual core 1.5 processor, etc, and is very Vista-capable, though in those performance tests we're advised to alter display properties, which we haven't done.

This Advent has an icon for osd in the bottom right hand corner area, allowing it to be disabled or set, currently it's at 1/second, whatever this means. Things seemed to freeze, e.g, when I'd type, when I chose 'disable'. Does the setting need altering, or would any other value than 1 be worse?

    Thanks for all input.

That particular piece of software or driver (not sure exactly what the OSD thing is) might not be compatible with SP1. If that's the case, then the software will have to be removed. Have you had a chance to check the Advent website, or contact their tech support?

I would suggest you take the laptop to PC World and kick up a fuss if they aren't too helpful. PC World has a responsibility to offer you support on this product. There doesn't appear to be any websupport available for Advent computers anywhere as such I would be complaining to PC World if I was in your position.
