I recently bought an iBook that came with OSX Tiger. I just traded it with a powerbook. I kept the install disk for OSX Tiger and installed it on the powerbook. I just realised it's installed on the ibook too. Is this illegal, would one of the notebooks have a problem, or are apple ok with this? I really don't want to go back to panther and I don't have the older install disks for the ibook.

    Any ideas?

Edit: Just noticed the missing S for notebookS in the title :) Mods, please?

Nothing should happen... There is no apple equiv. to windows genuine advantage. Its probably against the EULA though.

In fact there is no copy protection what-so-ever on apple's operating system. Kinda nice how they give you the benefit of the doubt, as opposed to Microsoft who asks you to run through half a dozen verifications just to have the right to run their $250-400 operating system on your computer.(might i add the verifications are easily avoided by actual pirates.)

Well, verification is unnecessary - since the only way to get OSX is on a Mac, and all Macs are sold with OSX, it would arguably be illegal for someone to sell you a Mac without OSX (or OS9, OS8, etc.). So I think you're safe here - why should it matter what disk was used to install OSX, since the license to use it comes with ownership of the computer?
