Have been searching everywhere (many, many web searches) and have not found a single person who has had this problem - hope someone might have an idea.

I'm running VIsta Ultimate, all updates installed. I have a SATA2 SSD as my primary drive and an ExpressCard SSD as secondary storage- USB, not PCI Express interface.

Whenever I run a search on the ExpressCard, search results come up fine, but when I click on a file to open it, it get a "File could not be found" error, with the correct path. If I navigate out to the file, it is certainly there and can be opened.

Running these sort of searches on the primary drive works just fine.

Does anyone have any idea about why this might be happening?

Speculating, because the drive is removable the index on your primary drive is somehow not able to remember it correctly form the point where the index is built and the time the drive is accessed.

Or, perhaps, you are not indexing the drive?

When you search the expressdrive, are you greeted with a message along the lines of "accessing a non--indexed drive may take longer....or something like that?

Is the drive removed and reattached? Have you actually indexed the drive (control panel, index options)

    Thanks for the thoughts.
I am indexing the ExpressCard, and haven't removed the drive (the drive letter is still the same as it was before as well). It occurred to me that there might be something wrong with the path to the files in the index, but it all seems to match up if I navigate out. It should work.

THe only thing that I can think of is that the path displayed in the search results is somehow not the one that is relied upon when you try to open a file in the results. What is shown is correct (manual testing proves it), and if the search results are coming from the index - it should be correct in the index as well?

SOrry if this is confusing, I have spent three days searching for anyone with a similar problem and it doesn't seem that person exists!

Good idea, thanks. I've tried this and now....Windows Search is not indexing the ExpressCard!

Settings have remained exactly the same, the drive is still selected to be indexed, however, Search indexes the other locations and ignores this one (I know because the index has 2100 items, and the ExpressCard has about 100K)

    Any ideas?
