    Started this evening:
Every few minutes, there is a black vertical strip - about 5 inches long and a quarter inch high - that pops up in the middle of my screen accompanied by a ticking sound: it has a white strip inside it and the word "Volume" in front of it. The inner white strip seems to indicate how high this "volume" is. When it pops up, it stays there for a couple of seconds then goes away.

I restarted the computer but it's still there!

Any ideas what it is?!

It could be bad sound HUD software that needs to be reinstalled.

Tis is getting really annoying now because it's popping up more often and staying longer.

What do you mean by sound HUD?
