OK this might be a dumb question but i have Office 2007 and i just downloaded Visio 2010 from my schools free download site. My question is, will visio 2010 be compatible with my office 2007 ?

    Thanks

I was wondering the same thing. I want to update to Office 2010 from 2007 soon but I also have Visio 2007, which I want to keep (since I can't afford Visio 2010) and before I do anything, I want to be sure that Office 2010 and Visio 2007 can co-exist on the same system.

I don't see any reason why this wouldn't work. Have you actually tried it? Oh, and are you sure Visio 2010 is 64-bit? At least there's a 32-bit version available, which is what I have now.

They can, that's what I had for a while.

^ we went over that you can run that, but not a 32 bit office with a 64 bit visio.

There is no such thing as 64-bit Office 2010. There are 64-bit versions of Word and Excel, and that's all there is in 64-bit. As an aside, there is really no good reason to choose the 64-bit version of any of the Office applications, unless you have very specific, and unusual, requirements. If you don't have Word documents with millions of pages, or huge Excel spreadsheets, you don't need 64-bit versions of these programs.

Strange. But, just install the 32-bit version of Visio, then. I don't see the issue...

Unless they changed it since the Beta of Office 2010, you can definitely run Office 2010 with Visio 2007. I've been running Office 2010 Beta and Visio 2007 together for more than a month and a half until Monday (when Office 2010 Beta expired). Both 32 bits.

My reason for using Visio 2007 was that Visio 2010 (final) didn't want to coexist with Office 2010 Beta, and I didn't want to shell out for Office 2010 - go figure. But since the beta expired, that problem probably won't be affecting anyone else.

Incidentally, I don't recommend 64-bit Office, either, unless you really NEED the 64-bit versions and have been experiencing memory ceiling problems with the 32-bit versions. One of my classmates ran into Visio compatibility issues (IIRC Visio 32-bit 2010, not 100% sure though) because he had Office 2010 64-bit installed.

It would be nice if you could mix and match Office versions with no worries, though.

Are you sure it didn't say that you need to have a 64-bit Windows OS (not Office) installed when you tried to install 64-bit Visio. It doesn't make sense.

That will work because you have a 64 bit Office and your but a 32 bit visio, that WILL work not the other way around like i did

No, i have a 64 bit OS on my computer. it makes sense because i have a 32 bit OFFICE, and was trying to run a 64 bit VISIO off the 32 bit office, you cant put 64 into 32 can you ? no, you cant.

I would suppose it depends on how the program is written and in this case apparently Office won't let you run that combination, too bad.

Adobe CS4 for example is 32-bit but was designed to allow Photoshop 64-bit to co-exist and run just fine within the 32bit code of all the other programs of the suite.
