I have been searching for a way of changing the default blue theme of Office 2003 in Vista on Google. The blue colors of Office 2003 default theme do not match with the rest of the Vista colors and the candy color is ugly to me. Finally found a solution myself:

Went to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 and for each of the following files
    Outlook.exe, Winword.exe, Excel.exe, Powerpnt.exe
    I did the following
right click -> Properties -> Compatibility -> check "run this program in compatibility mode for" -> select "windows 2000"

The software seems to be working fine. The before and after pictures are below for Word. Hope this helps your eyesore too :)

This only worked for Excel. Outlook tried to open but then would crash. I had to set it back.
And Word will still open with the default blue color no matter what.
Am I supposed to restart the computer or do anything else?

I have used this method on more than two Vista computers and there were no problems on any Office 2003 components. You have done exactly the same for all of them right? Do you have Vista SP1 installed? I have not tried without SP1.

PS: I have SP3 of Office 2003 installed as well.
