Hi, i recently decided to upgrade my office to 2003 from 2000 and i keep getting this error when i open certain documents "Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer Error 1605"... on Microsofts support page it sais to go to Documents&Settings/User/Application Data/Microsoft/Word/Startup and look for some template files and delete, by elimination, the templates that cause the error, but there are no templates there and this error really gets to me... any advice on how to fix this? Also, i have installed Service Pack3 for Office and i still get the error...

"Microsoft Office Word can't check the spelling of grammar in this document.
Microsoft Office Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605.
This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"

From the whole Office, i only installed Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook..

ok, let's change the strategy here... the reason for what i wanted to update to 2003 is because i have a friend that has 2003 and we kinda share documents and the layout of the file saved in 2003 is really weird in 2000... is there any way for office 2000 to read the files saved in 2003 accurately, or better said "just as saved in 2003"?

    I know there's a "2003 can read/write 2007 files" update, but I don't know about one for XP to 2003.

    If you google for this:
    Code:
Microsoft Office Word can't check the spelling of grammar in this document. Microsoft Office Word cannot install the necessary files due to Windows Installer error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed
You will be presented with a few links that may help guide you on the conversion process. I would start with this document:

    www-pc.uni-regensburg.de/systemsw/office/2003/XP-03Delta.doc

ok, fixed it... apparently there was some anomaly in the windows installer set in the registri or something, so i just removed the registry entry and it works....

If you have disk key for both them why not just use windows install cleaner remove both then just install newest from disk
