Isn't the startup time faster too?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Yes, I am using the 64 bit version and it starts up fast. -
What do you mean by ribbon?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
The thing with the at the top with all the tools and menus in it. -
Nice
Good to know
By the way - anybody who had Excel propblems - kill you add ons - I diabled bluetooth, Adobe Contribute and Adobe Acrobat and it became stable
(so far)
-
Looks good. How is ram and cpu usage vs 2007?
-
I think its difficult to compare it vs. 2007 because you can't actively run them side by side -but I'd say it low overal.
Higher when starting the app. -
Good to know I had some issues with Outlooking using more ram than it should hence moving back to Thunderbird.
-
Outlook is using 51,4Bat the moment for me

How do I get involved in this? Do I have to sign up or do I just download it and start using it? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Go to the site and download it when the Beta launches this week. -
Well I did hear the beta leaked on the net on Thursday, but not sure the legality of that since its a beta, if you really want to try and can't wait that is one option.

Now Available on MSDN/Technet.

Technically, it does not appear to be on MSDN and Technet YET. There are listings up, but no download links yet.
I didn't know we were going to get VISIO and Prokect 2010, too. Neat. -

Id love to see a comprehensive list of changes from 07 to 10, I am mostly looking for Excel changes, I love having new formulas, functions, and capabilities. I can care less about visual changes or layout changes.
-
Well for once Excel will support 64Bit on a 64Bit system - have a look at Google wave by the way
-
Links have been up for at least 3 hours for me. Its just SLOOOOW to DL.

Here is Microsoft's Excel blog.
TechRepublic, Microsoft and Maxiorel found these changes. -
So pretty muh what the pre release document stated about the preview.
Oh, and MSDN-AA does't seem to get it
it had Win7 as a RC though I think...

Looks like a few new table/graph features but overall its more web stuff and advanced coding stuff that I really do not mess with.
I just like to make spreadsheets for work use and found 2007 added a lot of stuff I could not do in the older version. I liked its auto growing and color coded tables, more functions, things like that.
So was hoping they were able to raise the bar yet again, but I guess it gets harder to make things better once you get to a certain point. -

So no drastic Excel changes? Kind of disappointing. Was hoping they would retweak the interface again as I didn't like the changes they made in the most recent iteration. Ultimately its not a huge deal either way but it would have been nice.

Any word on beta availability for non subscribers?
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Will be available today. I got invited into the Click to Run Beta on Connect.
And now I'm downloading "Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Beta"! -
I've got it too? but then the Office Site tells me there is an error...??? And hasn't found it...

i like the excel changes, for me they are, all together, a big improvement.
i like those:
and the new menu will be loved in companies. finally preview the print the way you want it
biggest usability improvement since years. i have tons of calls of customers messing up print.

clicking the download button doesn't seem to do anything for me...
Edit: worked with IE, seems Firefox is not loved on Microsoft sites

it's awesome fast.. around 0.5 - 1sec per app to start on the ssd. directly after installation, quite fun.
but the picture manager isn't updated yet to the ribbon, sadly
even paint has it now.. i'd hoped for picture manager, too..
-
I'd like to try it out, but cant get it downloaded. Oh well, maybe I'll try later
-
I was chosen in the technical preview, they kept sending us emails saying the beta is near and didn't even shoot us one for it.
The technical preview just completely disapeared.
I wish I had saved my keys:
Type: RETAIL
Build: ALL -
its awesome. extremely fast. dont like the menu though for some reason. it looks boring to me. i like the minimalist ish approach but it just doesnt look all that great.
-
Are you saying the Preview Key is a retial key?

On a side note - I can't sleep... installed the Beta
the designers seem to have run riot on here...
-
They provided us an unlimited amount of keys labeled as retail and valid for all builds.
-
Oh - I'm pretty sure I still have mine

Anybody get just a "file" when they downloaded it? I had to manually add the .exe extension to it and it is installing now.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
I got that too, but there was another window hiding that had the .exe to download. -

Renaming it worked things load really fast, but yeah the new interface is kinda meh... I guess you get used too it.
-
Someone needs to remove the word "almost" from the topic name.
-
it looks like the OP forgot to remove it.
So far, the beta seems really stable. i havent had any major issues. All my powerpoints from Office 2003 work fine. there is a grainy look on some fonts, however. The initial install took a while. Overall, im pretty happy with the beta. i uninstalled my 2007 copy and will be using this for now on. -
I really like the new features and it seems even faster than before. I am intrigued by the new Outlook, but not sure about it. Last time I really used Outlook was back in the Office 2003 days and it was a bit clunky and not to pleasant to use. Is that still the case, or is it worth moving from Thunderbird to the new Outlook?
-

Probably an easy question to answer myself but when does the beta expire and I have to install 2007 again?
-
Well Outlook has become more complex and far more extensive...
But it is lighter than before I think
-
For 2007 it was around February - I think it'll possibly be the same here.
-

October 2010. -
In a good or bad way? I would love to see a review comparing the new Outlook 2010 vs Thunderbird(specially the beta of version 3).
-
Well, if you know what 2007 was like
2010 is pretty similar.
Just a bit more...
Oh, and it does grouped conversations
so you can see your e-mails and replies in one "go" - its based on the subject line to some extent.
-
Never used 2007, took a look at it, but never tried it.
-
If you like the Ribbon interface
the problem is I only use contacts.. regular e-mail (POP of several accounts) and the calendar function no longer works with my BlackBerry (they don't upport 2010)
So a lot of in depth functions - you'd just have to try it out, -

How many computers can you use the beta on?
