    I will love it.

I just don't like how they replaced the orb, but it was obvious after seeing win7 that this will happen.

i prefer to finally get rid of the oldschool win3.1 topleft menu and have a more modern one up there (the orb did that trick very well).

other than that, can't wait. i love the new "backstage" instead of the main menu. a fullscreen menu is what i've been dreaming of since years. i hope, that one day, the windows startmenu and the desktop sort of fuse into that, too. maybe (again) office paves the way.. :)

and i like ribbon everywhere. ribbon in outlook (finally a consistent ui in outlook), ribbon in onenote (ribbons are AWESOME on a tablet, and onenote is AWESOME on a tablet. so now imagine a ribbonned onenote :)).

what else? hm. lets see for the tiny things in excel and such.. but the big ones i have noted :)

When I click on the MS link, the "introducing MS Office 2010" page loads correctly...
...but in the "What's New in Office 2010" box, I get a big ol'

    Sorry An Error Occurred

Is that an inauspicious beginning or what? :p

ribbon keeps me from upgrading. lol, 2003 is good for me, MS if you give users the choice, maybe I'd consider using 2010/07 for that matter.

Oh, and MS if you adapt windows to interface to much like Office... I'll switch to Ubuntu or Mac.

Yeah I am not a huge fan the the ribbons myself. I am slowly trying to get used to them since that is what is on all my school's computers. I guess I just need to deal with it and learn the new system.

    I like 2003 too. It's easy to use and there's actually a menu. Lol. I used a friend's 2007 version and I was like ?

I have used both and I just like ms office more. They both get the job done, so I don't see the point in arguing which one's better.

    Any "major" improvements over 2007?

Or students can get Office 2007 Ultimate for just $59.99 (Ultimate Steal by MS).

That's what I just bought and after years of using OpenOffice it's such a relief. MS Office is far superior IMO, it does what I want to do more intuitively and without having to dig through as many menu's as is the case with OpenOffice.

Seems like OpenOffice is improving at a faster rate than MS Office. I'll give 'em that.

It started so far back, though, that I think it'll be a while yet before I see it as a legit alternative. I hate the phrase 'power user' but I really do use a lot of MS features. To the point where I'm annoyed even at using the Mac version of Office.

haha, all your arguments make me laught.

people still on 2003, get used to learning new stuff, it's the computer industry, a fast moving environment.

once you've learned the new stuff, you'll undestand how much improved it has. just in case, The Office Bible explains in detail every design choise they've made. a good read for all the brain-dead "i'm stuck in 2003 and love to be there".

i'm still stuck there at work. and, as everyone around starts to do as well, i hate the old style.

openoffice is a nice joke compared to office, and no replacement for corporate use. that's both true and somehow sad, though. still, good luck to their terrible messy piece of code. it really is..

anyways, i can't wait for the new version, except for the menubutton, at least.

Thanks for the link Dave. Hopefully that will get me over my fears of Office 2007.

I think changes are good, but changes made for the sake of just changing something can sometimes do more harm than good. I am not sure if that is true in this case, but in others it can be.

Is it sad that I took a class on office 2003 in school, but can't even work my way through the menus, and yet I've practically mastered office 07 after just 2 years of using it? Nope. It just proves one of two things:

I didn't pay attention enough in that class

    or

Microsoft made office much easier to use with the ribbon.

Microsoft sent me an invitation to preview Office 2010, so I clicked the link, registered with something called "Connect" as it was a requirement, then I keep getting this message, even if I click the link which MS provided in the email.....

    What gives?

It's nice that they now include a 64 bit Edition and a 32 bit edition, in the past it was only 32 bit which had to go into the Program Files (x86) Folder. :)

I am also still using Office 2003. Ribbon is convenient for simple menus but for complicated menus it becomes counterproductive. MS packed all kinds of functionality into the Office and Ribbon is the only way to get us into upgrading to a new version. MS evangelists are all ready and well-paid to belabor "advantages" of new interface.

Not really, it's pretty much 2007 with some minor tweaks. The layout looks a bit different, but that's all.

I don't mind change and learning the new way, but the interface looks overly cluttered to me, even more so than 2007. I mean what more does Word need to have?
