I'm having a bit of a hard time finding an answer and hoping its a quick one for someone around here.

I got Office 2010 with the free 2013 upgrade when purchasing my laptop. My laptop is from the USA, however, I am in Germany in work until past the upgrade eligibility period ends.

When I visit office.com/offer and go through the steps (here in Germany), I choose USA, enter my key, etc, and I get an error to contact Microsoft Support. I talked to them, and they said the problem is that I am in Germany and am selecting USA.

So I tried using Hotspot Shield as VPN to the USA, but still not working.

I did have my father in the usa go through the same steps, and he did NOT get an error. So I am quite sure this is a location problem.

    So, my questions:
    1) If I choose "Germany" from the list, enter my key, and it works, is my copy of Office 2013 going to be in German?
    2) Can I choose the Office 2013 language? So even if I download in Germany I can choose USA English?
    3) If 1&2 are not possible, can I have my father go through all the steps on his laptop in the USA (so it is in English), will he get an install file on his laptop that he can then send to me? Or something like this?

Are there any other options? I cannot have the German version on my laptop. Really stuck here. And frankly MS help seemed severely lacking the 2 times I was on the phone with them....

    appreciate it.

I went through similar issues, until a complaint to our consumer council got me reaction and I could get the correct download.

    That is the good news.

The bad news: I reverted back to Office 2010 after a few days. The reasons?
    1. The interface is too "white", even the darkest version gave me blinding headaches after two to three hours.
    2. The issues Outlook 2013 have to sync with the Gmail IMAP server will not be resolved anytime soon.
    3. No "custom installation" is possible.

The few "new" features in Office 2013 are not worth the trouble.
