Vista Business 32 & Office 2000 works great from a clean boot or reboot, but I cannot use any Office program after coming back from sleep mode. Excel, Word, ect., they all freeze and go into NOT RESPONDING if I my computer was in sleep mode. I have even performed Office Repairs and it still hangs (until I reboot). I am not using any Add-ins or Macros, and no other program on my system has any problem with sleep mode. Running as administrator does not fix. Running in compatability mode does not fix.
Please don't tell me to upgrade office because I have googled and found others have the same problem, even with Office '07. I would be mighty PO'ed if I spent over $100 for the latest and greatest in an attempt to fix just this, only to come out with the same problem. Please don't tell me to wipe my hard drive and re-install windows, that is not a solution I am willing to consider. And please don't tell me to install some free .org office clone, that is not a solution to my problem.

Just send the machine to me. I'll make good use of it.
On a serious note, it could be a lot of things. I have never heard anybody with a specific office only problem, usually other programs freeze too. What makes you think it's office, and not your system a.k.a. Vista? Are you sure no other programs freeze too? -
Just as an add in.
I use Outlook 2007 and Word/Excel/Powerpoint 2007 (got them in the student edition and then Outlook later before I started Uni, got an old Outlook 2002 somewhere...)
Anyway. I always send my laptop to sleep and Office never hangs...
So, it can work in Office 2007.
This let's me ask the question - what is different between your laptop and mine (apart from Office 00 vs 07)...
I have Vista Business too...
Just thinking - first thought, do you run office in compatebility mode?
(I run Maple 9.5 in compatebility mode and it works after sleep) -
Thanks, no other programs freeze up after sleep, and yes (I did already say that) I have tried compatibility mode. I'm using Vista Business 32 SP1 with updates. What version of Vista Business do you run?
Since my original post, I have installed Office SP1a then SP3. I will run it for a while and see if it's resolved. -
Vista Business 32Bit SP1
Same as you.
Good luck - I hope it works for you now -
Test FAILED already. Office 2000 SP3 did not fix, program still not responding after sleep.
-
I'm just curious - a little detail.
Are the applications running when you send your computer into sleep mode?
Have you tried with the applications closed?
(Although for Office 07 - Outlook wors fine even though its tunning when my Vaio goes into sleep mode...) -
cheers ... -
I do not keep the office app(s) open when going into sleep mode, I always close/save first.
It doesn't matter if I open a previous document or a new/blank document, they all behave the same- not responding. -
Can you check error logs immediately after sleep for any service that fails to respond or anything else that is abnormal? -
I have browsed the error logs and cannot see a pattern. Honestly I feel like I'm just spinning my wheels. I have now updated EVERY available driver from the Sony support site and installed some 14 Office 2000 patches that came after SP3. Yet, I still have the same problem. Seems Vista has won this battle and M$ will be getting more money out of me for another force-fed upgrade.

Too bad...
My worry is, what happens if that issue isn't resovled for you in Office 2007?
I know I don't have an issue with it... but who knows.
Are you prepared to do a recovery/clean instal? It may be and idea to "clean out" the registry... -
Ya, that is my worry too. I will install the trial from M$ and use it until it expires to make sure it works for me... I'm gonna do my best to scrub out every remnant of Office2k before I install 2007. Now that I think about it, this Z came with a trial of 2007 Professional and I actually uninstalled it and then installed my full version of 2k... One step forward two steps back & repeat, it's the M$ way

OK. Good luck
