I recently purchase ms office for pc, but will the key also work with a mac?

If not would ms be cool enough to give me a key for a mac too?

I would feel cheated if they don't.

No, the wouldn't. Office 2007 and office 2008 for mac isn't the same product, they're not made by the same people. It's like you paid for adobe photoshop and asking autocad team for a free copy of autocad 2010.

erm... Microsoft does make Office 2008 for Mac, now granted they have a separate business unit devoted to Mac software development known as the "MacBU" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macintosh_Business_Unit but in fact it is the same company lol. Not saying that your whole explanation is incorrect though, the chances of him being able to get a "dual useage" key for Office 08 is pretty slim-perhaps this is a market they should target though. :)

    Nope.

    Nope.

I already feel "cheated" for paying Windows licence on the macbook after having many Windows machines.

    cheers ...

The irony of the situation is how dissimilar Office 2007 and 2008 are. I am convinced how groundbreaking the Ribbon UI is when I notice owners of Office 2008 start editing their documents on a PC using Office 2007.

I can wait for Outlook to get a full Ribbon-ization

That is true, i like both systems but was plesantly surprised by the "ribbon-lite" that Office 08 uses..very nice

if only they could get rid of that pesky floating "formatting pallet" Then i'd be set :D

Just download office 2010 tech preview and you get outlook 2010 with ribbons.

Why would you feel cheated, they are no the same products. If you are really strapped for cash you can always use Open Office. I feel my money is well spent on Office though.

Anyone who feels they get cheated by buying Office obviously doesn't have a job.

Yes and no. On one hand, it's clearly the best Office software out there and definitely worth spending money on. On the other hand, the pricing is pretty ridiculous for standard users. Having a job makes that money mean something to you.

I was able to get Office 2007 Ultimate for $60 through the ultimate steal program. In that case, I feel like I cheated Microsoft, although I know they'll make back the money in the future from me.

Seconded on the ultimate steal program, if that wasn't around, i'd probably get by with home and student (and be forced into the computer lab last semester and this semester due to needing Access and Publisher)

I hope they'll offer W7 there too, Vista product (red) edition? nah. lol

Have you signed up for Microsoft Dreamspark? I am sure it will get there soon after it is released.

Even before the Ultimate Steal program, it's not really all that much money. It's a necessary item in the course of anyone's career. Students will spend more money on "necessary items" like video games, clothes, credit card fees over the course of their college career. I see students spend more time preparing for a party than they do preparing their resumes. Priorities. Priorities.

Yep, looks like it's all programming and server stuff ATM though (i'll need a few of the programming things for my major so that's nice) so hopefully it'll come there soon :)

Yup, I got Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 off of Dreamspark. I doubt any major OS will pop up there, but one can hope :)

You don't think that $600 for Office Ultimate is a lot of money? I think that $600 is a lot of money, regardless of what you're spending it on. But what do I know, I'm just a student

Can't blame MS for this $$ wanting. Now it would be nice if they make the license affordable to all, instead just to some specific groups (students etc ...)

    cheers ...

It's not a lot of money considering the career long benefits. Students spend that on beer alone.......

Um dude, you want a program key for a computer made by a company that is all about that.

But all things aside, the office programs on the Mac are a waste of time. I suggest you stay in Windows and do your office stuff in there.
