I want to reinstall Vista with vLite. I originally installed 1.2. It wanted me to download some ~1GB WAIK file from MS for the WIM Filter. That would take me more than all day. So I installed version 1.1.6, which has the WIM Filter incorporated. However, as I'm about to do this, I found somewhere where it said that vLited versions aren't compatible with SP1? Is that right? I think maybe 1.2 is compatible, but not 1.1.6? What exactly will be restricted if I do a vLited install? Or, if can I maybe copy the WIM filter files now, and then install 1.2? Please help me out, as I'd like to get this done soon, and I've never used vLite before.

    Thanks.

Thanks, but I did already look at that, and I don't have the standalone SP1 installer, so I guess right now I just want to be able to update to SP1 after I install, but I do want to be able to modify the install, which is why I'm using vLite. :(

Edit: I managed to find the WIM Filter files, have copied them to a zip archive for future reference ;) and will incorporate them into an install of 1.2, with which I shall create my vLite install, and hope it will be SP1 compatible. :p

I would create a slipstreamed SP1 version of the vista install files first, then run vlite on it. I did that and it worked great. I haven't tried doing vlite, install, then update to SP1 as I removed some things that disabled SP1 from installing.

Yeah, but that means I have to download the SP1 installer, and that would take all day. :(

I dunno....maybe it's worth it. But I wanted to do this today.

Edit: Thomas just linked me to his quick guide that I'm sure would be helpful to anyone doing this in the future.

Ok, forget vLite for the present. I would need a DVD, preferably the service packs, and a bit more time on my hands. :p
