Does anyone have these games and can comment on the ability to install/run them on Windows 7?

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri & Alien Crossfire
Independence War 2: The Edge of Chaos

SMAC needs some tweaking to install and play on XP/Vista.
IW2 will not play on XP/Vista.

Thanks for beta-testing W7 for us future users! :)

Theoretically, there's compatibility mode from Win 95/98 (am I right?) to Windows Vista in Windows 7, which should make it work.

It also depends, if it's 16-bit, well you can't play if you're using x64 Windows 7.

Sorry that I dunno these games :>

They may be old but they're classics. I still enjoy playing them.

True. Unfortunately Compatibility Mode will not cooperate with IW2.

I never played around with VMware. I may check that out. Tks.

I've got Independance War 2 installed on 7 seems to run okay to me. The only problem I have is getting my joystick to stay calibrated, but its Win7 not the game causing that.

I've got SMAC, but it'll be about a month and a half until I have the install disc with me again - I just run it off the hard drive since you don't need the disc in the drive to play it. I installed the XP compatibility patch for SMAC after installing it on XP and it works perfectly there, but I don't have it installed on Windows 7.

Thanks as well, Apollo. I currently have SMAC installed on Vista64 so that's not a problem. I am curious about it on W7. Until a SMAC 2 is made I do not want to move into an o/s where I can't play the original! :)
