For those of you with cutting edge graphics cards by ati, and maybe the nVidia ones haven't tested those since i don't have anything to do this with, you should look at the Omega Graphics drivers (www.omegacorner.com) These will work with the Mobility Radeons and desktop Radeons alike. You should make a restore point before you install them in case you screw it up, but they will increase your graphics performance, and they even allow you to overclock your gpu, again just do this with some forethought.
Note: These only work with dedicated graphics cards do not try this with an integrated card.
Also, make sure to follow the instructions stated with the Omega Drivers.
Finally, try this at your own risk no one at NotebookReview is responsible for your actions.

New omega drivers out I've installed them, but not benchmarked them yet.
And here is what the author says (kinda long):
OMEGADRIVE here!
These are my "optimized" drivers for the ATI Radeon family of video cards.
What's New? (2k/XP 2.5.44)
* Based on the Catalyst 4.5 drivers.
* Updated the Omega version of RadLinker (1008), now the Profiler include options
to enable TAA modes and to establish the desired TAA Threshold for D3D apps.
* Added and removed a LOT of tweaks, ATI changed some internal settings and some
old tweaks won't work anymore from now on.
* Fixed support for Mobility 9700.
* Fixed the "Hibernation not working" problem in laptops.
* Added support for the Following laptop wide screen resolutions: 800x480,
960x600, 1024x600, 1024x480, 1280x600, 1280x768, 1280x800, 1680x1050, 1920x1200
* Re-enabled a desktop wide resolution: 1280x768
* Added an EXCLUSIVE new Omega utility which adds the ability to SWAP between
the soft-mod and the normal driver without the need to re-install the whole
drivers. (Thanks to Chris W, Author of RadLinker)
* Removed Artifact Tester 5 from the package. (Sorry Alberto)
* Included the latest version of ATITool. (Thanks W1zzard)
* Since the package has grown in size I will be distributing the installer in
compressed CAB format to save some bandwidth, it must be decompressed using one
of these tools (latest version): WinAce, WinRAR or WinZip. Then run the extracted
file to start installation of the drivers.
**************
Important Notes:
1. If you are using an Omega soft-mod and you are experiencing crashes, black
screens, artifacts or the "check board effect" during game play, run the new
included Driver Swapper utility and select the Normal driver, the reason is
that your card is not accepting the soft-mod due to broken/incompatible
hardware.
**************
REMINDERS:
1- If you have the normal ATI drivers installed, uninstall the ATI Control Panel
BEFORE upgrading to these drivers, the Omega Drivers already have the CP
integrated and another CP will cause conflicts or other problems.
2- There is no need to uninstall ANY previous drivers (ATI or OMEGA) when
installing these, the new ones will overwrite any previous settings, but if
you still want to uninstall them completely, is ok.
3- In Windows 2k/XP, ALWAYS disable DDC in the ATI "Displays/Monitor" CP after
installing drivers to be able to use ALL the refresh rates and resolutions
your monitor supports, also this is the best way to avoid the 60Hz RR bug.
4- The WDM drivers for VIVO and AIW cards are not included, but they can be
downloaded separately from a link in my drivers page.
5- The Radeon cards do support FastWrites and they will work with it on
(on some machines), but it is not recommended, there is NO SPEED gain
when using FW, and this option will affect your PC's stability a LOT,
most game crashes and problems are because FW is enabled.
6- Install the included Multires utility to have access to ALL the available
resolutions in the Omega Drivers, standard Windows doesn't show all of them.
7- Always uninstall the previous version of RadLinker before installing the new
one included in the latest Omega Drivers.
I don't recommend the use of ANY external tweakers with my drivers (specially
Rage3D Tweaker), as they override my special settings and will make my work
useless. The only time I recommend a tweaker is when you have a specific
problem with a specific tweak and need to change it in order to make the drivers
work correctly. Also if you use a tweaker for overclocking, FSAA, Gamma or
Aniso settings, is just fine, but you'll be better off using the integrated ATI
CP for that (which is ok by me if you change any setting in it).
If you have any problems with this drivers please go to my webpage and look in
the ATI help section for answers. If still have problems look for the drivers
thread in www.driverheaven.net forums and let me know what is going on.
If you happen to find a new tweak or fix for a specific game or many games
and it proves that it works then drop me an E-Mail (don't post it in the
forums), I'll make sure credit will be granted to that person in this INFO file.
IMPORTANT: Don't bother ATI about these drivers as they are unsupported by them!
May GOD bless everybody!

Sorry to ask this question, but I'm kind of confused. What exactly is the CATALYST driver? Is it just a normal driver for the ATI Radeon videocards? And, since my OS is in Russian and it's a mess to find something, how do I check what version of it I have installed?

Yes catalyst is the name of the ATI drivers. you can check in the properties it should say what version your driver is where you set your resolution. There should be a number next to the name of the card i.e. 3.5, 4.5.0.1....

Either I'm blind or I cannot find it. I go to prpoerties, and where I change the resoultion it just says Mobility Radeon 9200. I click on advanced, and it gives me lots of versions:Bios, driver (which is 6.something, which proves it's not the Catalyst) and others. I am really confused. Could you please explain it more in detail?
Thanks.

yeah, it seems more and more benchmarks can not be used to measure performance, and you must look more at how games perform.

I just installed the omega driver for the second time the first time I was not happy with it, because I noticed no improvment. I was wondering is it possible to only install the Radlinker? Because over clocking helps a lot! but the omega drivers alone lowered my score a little. I don't understand if the omega drivers are better and lower my score? The aquamark3 and 3DMark03 are grpahics test running graphics engines right? just like a game would? so if they run slower shouldn't games? I was just thinking of only using the radlinker and not the omega drivers, what do you guys think? my original aquamark 3 was 19,796 but with only omega it was like 19,750 and then I over clocked mine from GPU: 310MHz Memory: 190MHz to....
GPU: 378MHz Memory: 256.5MHz my new aquamark3 score is = 24,275 big difference!

if it lowers your score its not really a big deal, look at Andrew for example. his score went down, but his realworld experience went up. You can't always rely on the scores to tell you how a laptop is doing, its just an estimate of a made up test.

can I install just Radlinker without installing omega drivers? I don't notice any improvment with them. I also don't like my computer in the display setting having setting for resolutions higher then what mine can do, i know it dosen't matter but I don't like stuff like that. I would just like the over clocking ability to play around with once in awhile.

If you do the overclock, will that increase the burden of the gpu and memory?
Have you also done something to cool down those in the zx5000 and r3000t?
cuz the results are really great, and this is the question that concerns me a bit.
heh, thanks![8D]

Everybody NEEDS to d/l the Omega drivers for one reason only. All manufacturers stop supporting old product sooner or later, and since notebooks aren't easily upgradeable, if at all, eventually you'll be screwed for driver updates and you may not be able to run the latest apps and games. Omega lets you use the latest driver updates for your video manufacturer regardless of how old your system is.

My experience with the Omega Drivers has been nothing but great. I could not play Doom 3 very well on my desktop or notebook with the 4.7 Catalst drivers, the Omegas fixed all issues. They are optimized for sure. And if you do any gaming, you can use Radlinker- that allows you to set specific overclocked settings (core & memory) to your graphics csrd for specific games or applications. That way you don't have to run your card overclocked all of the time, just when you use those games.

i have a 1662wlmi and am having issues with the drivers that came with the system for the 9700 radeon card and doom 3, i have tried the omega drivers but i cant get the smartgart to turn on and when i tried the specified steps listed in the faq it still wouldnt start. i dont know the motherboard chipset and cant find what it is, i think its an ati but i cant find drivers to get that fixed. then with smart gart turned off framerates go down tremendously and are basically unplayable in half life 2 but that game is fine with the stock video driver. Does anyone know what i can do so that i can play both games? acer has been no help and has no plans to upgrade the driver to the latest catalyst.

I'm not all interested in overclocking my GPU, but any performance increases that can be gained through other tweaks or optimized code would be worth a try. I know this was asked on the 1st page of this post last year, but I don't think it was answered. Does anyone know if the ATI omega drivers will work with or include the powerplay software? Powerplay is something I really need because of the big power savings I gain when using it.
Thanks

Does the mobile ATI catalyst driver support the x600? I know it says on the website that the driver supports x700 and x800, but how's the x600?
-
I doubt the X600 is supported, unless it specifically says so on the site. You can always use DriverHeaven's modder though, to make it work on practically any Mobility Radeon card.
-
According to this site on page 5:
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2498
The new ATI Catalyst 5.7 drivers actually cause a performance hit for the X700 card with 256MB.
I've looked on the Omega Drivers site for the 5.6 based drivers and couldn't find them in the archives:
http://www.omegadrivers.net/
So the questions I have are:
1) Which drivers are better for the 256MB x700 - the ATI Catalyst 5.6 or the Omega Drivers based on the 5.7?
2) Do Omega Drivers exist that are based on 5.6 or were they skipped and if they do where can I find them and are they better for the x700 256MB than the Omega 5.7's?
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows.
