I just saw this on devZone and figured I'd share the great information.

**THIS IS ONLY IF YOU HAVE A CPU WITH MORE THAN ONE CORE

Go into msconfig and click the boot tab. Click the "Advanced options" button. Check the checkbox "Number of processors:" and then switch the dropdown tab to your number of cpu cores (two for most lappys). Hit ok, apply, and then ok again and it will ask you to restart. Restart the comp and all is done.

    Enjoy the faster boot times!

    nice find... :)

the same feature is available for XP and XP 64 also.

have not measured the bootup times with and without the numproc=2 setting in the boot.ini but the "felt" bootup time seems a little faster under xp 64. have not booted a lot, mostly i hibernated my laptop in the last few weeks, so i might be wrong.

    thanks buddybot

i already described that tweak yesterday in another thread. It does not make vista boot faster, any difference is negligible.

This tweak can actually lock up your system. I dont suggest you try it

You have dual cores, but still in ONE processor

It made my boot feel slower, plus I noticed that during boot its not my cpu thats holding me back its the HDD, the HDD light is constantly on and running 100% so even if it did split the cpu duty the hdd would still be the slowest part.

This was in an article long time ago, it is a HOAX, HOAX, HOAX, dual core is not the same than 2 processors.
