    Hi there

I've just got my new laptop, and Acer Aspire 9302 and it's preloaded with Vista unfortunately imo.

Anyway I had on my other laptop, which was loaded with XP Home, Outlook 2003. I had set it up using the Mail icon in Control Panel so I could connect to the office LAN and check my emails.

This was done by setting up a connection to the MS Exchange Server here on the office LAN using the options in the Mail icon on Control Panel.

I've installed office 2003 on my new laptop with Vista and I can't seem to do the same thing.

Please could someone advise me on how to do it?

Thanks in advance for any advice/help, this is the best website I've come across for getting this type of help because everyone here is genuinely helpful :)

Ah thanks for the link WackyT but I think you misunderstand, I've already done it on XP and now I'm trying to work out how to do it on Vista, the link is for details of how to do it on XP which shows what I've already done on my other laptop.

Thanks anyway, I'm going to play around with the options some more and see if I stumble across the mail settings, all the bleeding icons and names have changed, why can't MS just pretty things up rather than changing everything?

Go into Control Panel in Vista. There should be a Mail icon in there.

Or you can open up Outlook. Go to Tools, then click on E-mail Accounts...

*skulks off feeling like a dumbass.*

Sorry guys, the icon just appeared not sure why but yesterday it wasn't there, and it wasn't there a few mins ago when I booted up. I've had CP on Classic view all the time as well - can't stand the other view.

On another note, I have a printer connected to the LAN here and my laptop won't connect to the printer properly, I have to delete the printer and re-add the printer every time I turn my laptop on, the LAN is recognised as being there and the printers manager shows the printer is there but I get a err msg saying the RPC server is unavailable or it just generally won't work unless I re-add the printer?

The connect option is greyed out as well - is this something I can solve on my laptop or is there something our IT guys could be doing on the LAN side of things?

It works fine if I delete/re-add the printer apart from having trouble accessing the Server to find the printer a few times to begin with, but when I've added it and its there it works, just not when I turn off my laptop and turn it back on again.

It'd be great if I could get it to work as soon as I turn on my laptop without doing anything in the same way our desktops do.

I always boot up with the ethernet cable plugged in so it's not that doing it as far as I know.

Thanks for the advice guys :)

    1) What make and model printer?
    2) Is it directly connected to the network, or shared out through a print server or a workstation?

Er it's a HP Laserjet 2600, it's connected to the LAN via an ethernet cable so I don't know how that works, I'm not particularly good at network stuff, or computers at all come to think of it.

Then you might want to ask your IT guys to set it up for you.

Ok, I'll see if they'll set it up for me, but how come if I delete and then re-add the printer it works?

I'm running Vista and Outlook 2007. Does Outlook support hotmail or just POP3 email accounts??

Does you printer go to into router you have at home?

do you know how to print test on you printer if so you can get the ip address from the printer from they you just have add a network printer the for port pick network or tcpip

when you got to add printers in vista pick network printer

add printer useing the host name or ip

type the ip address of the printer you got from printer test

hit next it shound find it

Tried that and it won't do it that way, it comes up with an error message. It finds it, I can add it but when I re-start my laptop I have to go back and add it again and then the wizard has a problem accessing the server it's on or comes up with other err msg's and then after a couple more attempts I can get it to work, I've printed test pages on it so I've got all the details.

PS It's our office LAN not a home network.

I'm not too bothered - I don't print a lot out anyway and I can always email myself and print from the office desktops but it's just inconvenient to do that.

Hotmail under Outlook 2007 won't connect. It now requires a subscription.

Yup I figured that out once I configured it. The weird thing is it says it requires a subscription but it takes me right to my hotmail account. I'm going to try and see if it will work with yahoo mail.
