I've downloaded Open Office and trying to work on an excel spreadsheet. When I type in numbers with full stops (e.g. 1.2.45) it converts it to date format (01/02/45). Any ideas what I can do to correct this?

You need to format the cells to be general instead of the default setting of date, when numbers are entered in that format.

    thanks brian.

i went to FORMAT then CELLS then NUMBERS and it seems to be set to taht already. e.g category has "numbers" highlighted and format has "general" highlighted.

You might need to edit the auto date settings then. I don't use that program, just trying to guess at the source of the issue.
