The question's in the title. I use Photoshop at work, but don't need all of its complexities at home (not to mention it's cost). Is there any open source or free or even cheap decent photo editing software?

I hear 'The Gimp' is a good open source photo program

If you're looking for a nice free photo editor, Google's Picasa 2 is very nice - I use it to edit all my photos.

The Gimp is absolutely amazing. I used Photoshop for a long time, but I couldn't motivate the cost of it when compared to the Gimp that did everything I needed for free.

I'd vote Picassa over GIMP if you just want something light and easy to use. No offense to people who like GIMP, but I found it clunky and non-intuitive. If you have some money to spend though, Photoshop Elements and Paintshop Pro can both be had for under $100 (maybe even like $50, depending on the version you get) and are nearly as functional as Photoshop CS2, with a similar interface.

My vote is for Picasa. There pretty nice.

I use Paint Shop Pro X. It is not free, but it is much, much cheaper than Photoshop. You can try it out, too.

the gimp has to be one of the best photo editors I have used, way lighter than PS. And there are quite a few of free plugins online

MS Paint -> old school

Hmmm...decisions,decisions...Thanks. I may try both Picasa and The Gimp.
