Opera 10.00 has officially been released, with all sorts of new features and improved performance. New features include:

    - Redesigned, streamlined skin
    - Adjustable visual tabs
    - Customizable speed dial
    - Spell check
    - Hiding of menu bar to maximize screen real estate
    - Opera Turbo with automatic optimization
    - Opera Link to synchronize Opera browsers across computers
    - And much, much more.

    Get it now at http://www.opera.com/download
The servers are overloaded now, and it took me repetitive trying every minute for 15 minutes for a successful download to start.

To the OP...thanks! To MaXimus...in my opinion, I don't think this is a question of one browser better than another - though I do admit that for some reason I don't like FF - even the latest stable version. I do like IE8, but playing around with Opera 10, I am now torn between the two. Opera has a few features, which were missing in the earlier editions. Rendering pages is fast. The native skin is clean and minimalistic (much better than the native skin for the last Opera edition), the Turbo feature may be useful under certain conditions. the inline spell check (finally!) is very useful. Unfortunately, Gmail seems to be experiencing some sort of a server glitch, so I have not yet been able to test it out. All sites that I have visited thus far work, which is great!

Edit: Gmail now works fine! All in all, I'd say that Opera 10 was worth waiting for. Now I am wondering what else can they cram into a 6.6 (English Version only) mg installation file. BTW, I opted for an 'upgrade' rather than a 'fresh' install as I have a lot of stuff, which I don't want to mess up by playing around with the Profile switching. You should note that currently I have 3 tabs open and the RAM usage is 122 Megs, which is a little on the high side - at least I think so. Anyways, do give it a shot!

OK, so far what I like:

    1) Nice style.

    2) Nice way of scrolling through the book marks, in IE you had to roll your mouse wheel downwards forever to get to the bookmark you want, in Opera, you just click on MORE and you see the whole remaining list! MUCH faster

    3) Facebook chat used to disconnect me from the chat session like every minute until I refresh the page, now I'm constantly connected! VERY USEFUL.

    What I disliked:

    1) the FILE, EDIT, VIEW, BOOKMARKS, ETC is visible on the top........

    2) the way the book marks are managed......I don't want the part which is highlighted in red.........see attachment....

I just want my IE imported favorites to be visible directly, not in a sub-folder, and I want to get rid of the Opera native favorites, I deleted them from within the options of opera, but I can still see them when I click on bookmarks.....

1.- Open the File menu and untoggle "Show Menu Bar".

2.- That's how all browsers, to my knowledge, handle imported bookmarks. To move them out of the folder, open the Bookmarks manager. Click on the "Internet Explorer Favorites" folder, and then, use Shift + click to highlight all your bookmarks in that folder. Drag them into the left pane into any other folder, or put them outside a folder.

To delete the Opera folder, click on "Opera" in the left pane, press Delete. To delete the ones not in a folder, click any white space below the Trash in the left pane. Then, select the bookmarks in the right pane and press Delete.

    Thanks alot Midnight sun!

you solved my bookmarks issue and the menu bar issue perfectly, I decided to keep it though, was nice to know.

final grudge, I feel it is much slower than IE8, I tried having the turbo thing set to Auto, ON, OFF, same result, it takes like 2 -3 seconds of thinking before it switched to a thread on this forum for exactly, whereas IE does it instantly I feel..........

tell that Im just feeling this, or is there something that I need to do?

Uninstalled, it stands no match against IE's speed.

but it is much much better than FF! God I hate that browser so much.....

Opera 10 is still using a lot of ram, even in earlier alpha's and beta's it used a lot.

And also, why after I log into my Opera Link for the first time, I still have to input usernames/passwords onto sites? Isn't it supposed to remember them?

Actually using Real Ram or pre-allocating virtual memory?? Use sysinternals vmmap utility to find out.

you don't know the difference between real ram and virtual memory and how to find out how much of each a program is using?

So far Apple's Safari is the fastest for me and it does have a nice interface. Opera 10's turbo only works with poor connections and will notify you to turn off the turbo mode if it detects a fast connection. I mainly use IE8 for web compliancy since some sites won't recognize other than the IE browser

not everyone had a slow connection as you, so quit trolling.

just because you experience a slow speed over one browser doesn't mean everybody else's browser should be slow as yours.

Opera's *turbo mode claims it works in slow ISP's so you can try it. If it ain't working then its not for you.

    IE8 browser FTW!!

There. I just did it for you.

Agreed as I find Opera 10 blistering fast. I love the new interface and as always the ultra smooth scrolling in Opera. I still like the layout of FF but IE beats it in performance. I need to put Opera thru it's paces. The thing I hate most about FF is it starts to crawl after a period of time if you don't use a flash blocker although it has gotten better.

So far I like what I see in this release.

    I also use OperaUSB 10.
It's much faster than IE, sorry, but IE takes a while till it opens, does not respond immediately to commands and does not show the page content as fast as Opera does. Together with, let's say no features compared to Opera I don't think I'll ever use IE again.
Opera 10 is much better than 9.x. I also like the new menu button which appears after I hide the menu. Also, the mouse gestures are superb, together with the overall customization options and the well designed GUI.
I immediately loaded the latest ad block list, installed a flash blocker, configured the mouse gestures and UI, and loaded the whole thing, together with the cache on a RAM disk. Now it's even faster, allows the HDD to turn off while browsing, ...

I also really like the new standard skin which I'll keep for a while now.
Don't know if I'll use the tab preview often, but it looks great and maybe, when I use my tablet PC in portrait mode this will be a great benefit for me.

I only have two small issues with Opera.
I still don't know a way to mark text with images and copy them, I always have to use FF for this.
And Opera 10 does not support the Tablet Input Panel, damn.

    However compared with other browsers:
Chrome: Well, it's a fast browser, but also isn't very customizable and has, compared to FF or Opera almost zero features.
IE: It's in-built, it's a great browser, almost every website works with it, sadly it's pretty slow in general use, not site loading, and also has no real features.
FF: The first browser which is comparable to Opera, especially because of all the available plug-ins, sadly it's a ressource hog.
Safari: Never used it on Windows. On Mac OSX I didn't liked it, but maybe it's because I'm not familiar with the whole Apple system and the cumbersome mighty mouse.

I'm also excited to see Opera 10 with Opera Unite, will be even better.

Personally, I've not noticed big enough differences between browsers since i have a pretty past internet connection (like 15 mbit down, 5 mbit up).

The main thing that I love about Opera is speed dial.....I know other browsers have stolen it now but i am too used to Opera now and cant stand to switch to any other browser

Opera 10 has dethroned IE8 as my default browser. I forgot how to rearrange the links within a folder as they are basically in alphabetical order. Does anyone remember how to do that? I checked options but it's been awhile.

Thanks that did the trick ! :)

I gotta say Opera 10 is awesome. There isn't one Flash based site that has slowed Opera down. Opera still has the best smooth scrolling of any browser on the market. And Opera is just a very fast browser.

I have never really used Opera as frequently as I use Firefox, but it looks great and performs very well. And so far, I have not had any of the memory leak problems that Firefox gets.
