OK, a couple of days ago, Opera stopped working. It shows up in the TM. then quite a while later it opens only to say that an error has occured. it says that there is not enough memory. how can that be, I'm only using a little over half of the total memory before opening Opera?

As for Word, it's more of an annoyance than a problem.
The icon has turned to a black page Icon instead of the normal word Icon. because of this(maybe, not sure) I can no longer open Word in the normal fashion. to open a new document, I have to open a preexisting document and then open a new on from within the preexisting one.

so my questions are this: Whats wrong with opera and word and how do I fix it?

Have you tried reinstalling Opera? If it doesnt work delete the user folder and then reinstall. The folder is located under:

    C:\Documents and Settings\User name\Application Data\Opera\Opera\profile

For Word try the short cut properties and see the target is correct. If not then point it to the word.exe.

I reinstalled it. the yellow triangle with the ! in the center still shows up in the task bar, but Opera is now operational.
as for Word; I can't click in the text field to change the target, it's greyed out. any other ideas?

Where is this short cut? in the menu or on the desktop? you can delete it and create a new short cut.

It's in the start menu in the MS OFFICE folder as well as the recently used programs list. BTW I can't delete them unless there is another way to do it other than clicking on it since that has proven to be useless time and time again.

Then you are not loged in as admin or you dont have rights to the files.
They are not located in your user folder but most likely in:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Microsoft Office

If you are admin and dont have access you have to add yourself by right clicking going to properties and adding your user under the securtiy tab.

the original short cut is still the same but I made a new one, though it's a bit different than the original. Also, I have lost the ability to right click on the programs listed on the left side of the start menu. not a big deal just wondering if there is something specific that causes that.
