Hey everyone, I'm new, I just joined to ask this question because it's been bothering for the last three days already...

So the thing is, Opera is not loading most pages. Not from the quickstart or if I type the adress myself. It starts to load but the document meter thingy never moves from 0%
Most of the sites I usually attend aren't working at all; deviantart.com, hotmail, myspace, and weirdly, google search (the homepage of google works fine, just not any kind of search I type in). Other sites work though, like livejournal, youtube, etc.

I tried checking the bloked content list, the preferences, the Proxy servers but it hasn't changed yet.
I tried using IE as well, but it's not loading the same pages either.

The only thing I remember doing before this happened was run AVG and remove some files from the vault (delete them). That's probably what messed with it?

Anyway, it's not my modem or anything, since some sites do work, and my sister's laptop uses the same modem and the sites I named work there.

Any ideas what might be causing this, or should I just give it some time? Maybe format my hard drive would help in a worst case senario?

Bleh, I'm sorry this is a messy thread but I can't think of anything else to say about it and I don't know what else I can do.

So how exactly is it Opera's fault?

I don't think it's Opera's fault. Try Firefox too, just to check. It sounds like it's more of a cross-browser problem, which would indicate some restriction on your Internet connection. Perhaps a reinstall would not be out of order.

I would say it's your security software that is blocking those sites. This is especially true if they don't work in IE. Try them with your security turned off temporarily to see if they work.

Same problem here, no browser could load most pages:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=260621

And It's definitely not my security software, since the problem began long before I switched to Sunbelt. I am now trying to see if the problem will come back, as I had gotten out of it by rebooting a couple of times.

I am trying out Opera and it's running very well...

Running ok here. Make sure your firewall isn`t blocking it, or that those sites aren`t restricted in your browser/case .

For troubleshooting, try disabling security/firewall and changing other settings...

Does your ISP have policies in place restricting certain sites? Can other computers on your network get to them?

I was a heavy Opera user, and it happened to me a lot if I am opening a lot of tabs. I fixed it by going to Opera:config and tweak the maximum connecttion server or something like that to higher value... No harm in trying. :)

I turned off both AVG and the Firewall and it still won't work on either of the browsers. I'm gonna try reinstalling opera again in a second.
Another thing I forgot to mention is that a little pop up at start up tells me Windows' automatic updates are turned off. I go to turn them on on the security center but it gives me the message that it's not possible to do so right now and that i should go to control panel, system, automatic updates, etc. but when I go ther to turn them on, it tells me they are -already- enabled.
Do you think this has anything to do with the browser issues?

    just get Firefox :D

also, one day (I use firefox by the way) websites i usually visit were not loading. the internet in my house was working, but my browser would hardly load anything. i ended up searching around google to see if anyone had a similar issue and it ended up being my profile in firefox. i forget the reasoning, but i had to create a new profile and migrate all of my bookmarks to this new profile, and then everything worked again. it was like my current/old profile was all clogged and when i created a new one everything was fresh and worked fast again. if you google this problem, it seems to be very common [with firefox].

maybe there's a similar issue with opera?

This is not likely if the same sites don't work in IE. Are we sure it's not your ISP blocking those sites? Have someone with another machine try geting to them on your network.
