I'm gonna to buy a new laptop soon. I have my own license key and the software of windows 7(in a external hard drive), but I don't have the disc, can the laptop without OS run the software inside a external hard drive?
I want to install the windows 7 by myself.

You can obtain the Windows 7 SP1 discs from this thread here, first run ABR Backup and Restore to make a copy of your Windows Activation status and store this on an USB drive. Afterwards download the basic drivers such as the graphics and wireless/ethernet network card drivers for your laptop and store these on the USB drive as well.
Then it's a matter of following the simple steps on the Windows Installer, restoring the activation, installing the drivers and you should be running the newly installed OS in no time. -
Case 1: you purchased the serial key separately
Then you can download the ISO image of the corresponding version of windows from here . Its free and legal. Download it, install using your key and you are done.

This thread will tell you how to proceed. do read it!
Case 2: if you got the key with some other PC/Laptop
I dont think that key will run on a new installation on another PC as these Keys only worked on the system of their respective OEM. So you will need a new key or a new orignal windows 7 disc.
