Please help me with the following MS Outlook error.

'Task '[email protected] - Receiving' reported error (0x80042108): 'Outlook cannot connect to your incoming (POP3) e-mail server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Please note the following: I get this same error on a winxp sp2 outlook 2003 machine, and a win vista outlook 2007 machine.

I have gone as far as completely formatting the computers, and starting from new outlook accounts (I do not import anything!)

It does not matter how I am connected to the internet, whether that be on the desktop at home via my ISP, or on my university wireless at school.

I do not have any Norton or other internet security or antivirus programs running.

I have double, triple.. and checked a thousand times.. my SMTP/mail settings are correct! I am 110% sure of this.

Please please please, if you have any suggestions let me know.
Thank you very much for your time, patients and efforts.

    Sincerely,
    Bomberstud

PS I have had this error for over a year now, I have no solution in any inernet forums, google has not been of any help and neither has my ISP

And I am serious about sending someone money if they can actually help me resolve this issue in outlook!!!!!!! :(

The one thing you don't mention: Have you disabled the anti-spam setting in Outlook?

Also, have you tried disabling the Windows firewall?

The error you gave is for a POP3 server, but then you mention the SMTP settings being correct. What is your actual mail server?

    Windows firewall is disabled.
My ISP is Shaw, here in western canada.
Here is a URL; Shaw's instructions on how to setup an email account using other software other than their webmail.
    http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/CustomerCare/InternetSupport/Residential/Email/UsingEmail/SetUpMyEmailProgram.htm

For the pop3 and smtp mail servers I have tried the following: "shawmail" "shawmail.ed.shawcable.net" (used if you use a router) & "pop.shaw.ca" (all of course without the quotation marks)

Thank you very much for the help!

PS -- I have tried thunderbird as well... and it gives me connection errors as well.

OK. Next question: Does the webmail interface work?

I'd also like to see if you can get the account set up in Outlook Express. I'm sure it will give you the same problems, but OE errors tend to have a larger support knowledgebase than standard Outlook errors.

If you are having the same problem with OL2003, OL2007, and Tbird I would definitely think (or start) with your settings. Just because the webpage says one thing doesn't mean they update it regularly (or ever). Have they changed ports, or pop settings? Do they now require an smtp login to receive main? Do they require permission to set up a pop3 account? Do you have to enable pop3 through your webmail interface. Have you asked them?

Have you tried your username with/without the domain? (you or [email protected]). Have you tried to send a message to yourself with OL, then log into webmail and see if it's there?

Ive been through all the settings with my ISP. OL wont let me send either.
one thing to note, if i restart my computer, then check my email right after boot up.. it works fine... but after a few min, if i try to check again, then I get the error, and and have reboot.
