This outlook update/hotfix reportedly is for speeding outlook up, helping with imap handling, and apparently has helped some people with PST errors and corruption. its going to be part of Office SP2, but its well tested enough and apparently enough of a big gain that MS has released it early for free dl.

Details and download links are abundant at lifehacker.com

i downloaded and tried the update just to see if could improve the god awful lag of outlook on starting, accessing my imap folders (gmail and hotmail) and doing just about everything.

I am happy to report that the speed and stability improvements are indeed staggering. this one is a winner, i recommend going and getting it and installing it. if you have office 07 and use outlook, this one is worth your time.

I second this, downloaded it earlier today and noticed a nice performance difference. :D

Note: Because this isn't finished being tested by MS, you'll have to register w/ an email address and recieve a link to the password protected download site in an email. It's totally worth it though.

hope this helps ssd users as well, who had quite some trouble with the outlook performance.

it depends on the outlook usage. some have gigabyte big pst files and tons of accounts and such. on such systems, it can block the whole system for minutes if it does something wrong. espencially sadly on ssds

    Ah, OK.
I think I once had a 100 odd MB pst file - but I use my archive function a lot :D the active pst file is small for me.

i have five huge pst's both work and personal. i will tell you, outlook used to DRAG along. what a chore. now though, with this new kb, its amazing. click and its fast enough i cant even see it happen its so fast, its almost instantaneous. the change is remarkable. i went from hating using it, to really liking it over night. literally. this kb made a big big difference. cant wait for the rest of SP2 to show up, both for office and vista.
