how can i link outlook to yahoo, gmail, and hotmail. I've found some online forums that explain the process, but when i followed the instructions i couldn't get any of my mail. could anyone post step-by-step instructions?

this is also my first time using outlook as well, so "dummy's guide to operating outlook" or something would be perfect.

what do you mean by to link... you want to add up those emails link...
or you actually want to access your mail thru outlook?

if you want to create a normal link or shortcut.. just create the url link.. then drag n drop to your side bar in outlook...

but for receiving your email thru outlook... for yahoo mail... you will need to subscribe the yahoo plus... normal free account didn't support pop3 mail so far i know(this info kind of outdated tho)... n for hotmail... i'm not sure... n for gmail, you just need to configure the pop3 server n your account details...

for gmail... you can follow this guide... http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13278 it is for the outlook 2003, but the work around is similar with outlook 2007...

if you still cant set it... i will try to explain a lil bit more once i get home... my internet access at the office is limited... so few things i can't access just because its blocked...

Checkout ypops! for Yahoo mail. It's a 3rd party utility that allows you to access your Yahoo mail through Outlook (or Sunbird...etc). You can download it here, then follow the directions for setting it up with Outlook. It can run completely hidden, and works like a charm!

    http://ypopsemail.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownload&cid=1

I am not sure on an equivalent for Hotmail, as I believe my account was grandfathered in (I still have IMAP access w/o upgrading or getting a utility).

i got gmail to work now, thanks to slumbermann. unfortunately i still can't get either hotmail or yahoo to connect. i downloaded ypop! but how can i configure outlook to work with it? i tried following the instructions on the page, but i couldn't input the outgoing and incoming server port numbers. the error outlook gave me was that my username/password pair were incorrect, although i know i inputted both correctly.

All I can say is follow the instructions here:

    1. Tools > Account Settings
    2. New
    3. First option (Exchange, POP, IMAP...etc), click next
    4. Click Manually Configure at the bottom, click next
    5. Enter your account settings and continue from here:
    http://ypopsemail.com/modules.php?o...ns&file=index&req=viewarticle&artid=18&page=1

The instructions from the site are for Outlook 2003, but the configuration works the same. It works fine for me.

Edit: You will have to put your FULL Yahoo email address as the user name not just the first part. ie: [email protected], not xxxxx

that worked, thank you. i think it was cause i used just the username and not the full email address.

does anyone know about hotmail? it told me i had to go to "join.msn.com/general/Email" and i had to register/upgrade my email account in order to link with outlook. I already use the full version of live hotmail, so i don't know what to do.

i actually found that page myself before, and i followed the directions, i still got the error that i posted above
i'm not sure why this occurred.

    edit:

well the hotmail help section says you have to pay for your hotmail account in order to sync it with outlook or outlook express. does anyone know if this is 100% true or is there a way around it?

owhh okay.. so hotmail does require the paid service... btw... you said you do have the paid account is it?

i will try to look if there is similar tools like the ypop for hotmail too... cause normally yahoo need to pay the Mail Plus to use the POP 3 too... but with ypop... it done nicely... so maybe there already such tool for hotmail too... will update when i get any info on that... :)

I believe those people were grandfathered in. My Hotmail account works fine, and I've had it for 5 years. I don't know if that is the case, but it works for me. If it is not working for you, but you are sure you're doing it right then you'll probably need to find a 3rd party tool like YPops. Maybe you can find one that does both Yahoo! and Hotmail. That way you wouldn't have to run two programs.

you can use your hotmail account thru outlook if you get an addon for outlook called the outlook connector. Its an addon from microsoft so go to the website and search for it. You dont need a paid account to sync your email and address book but if you want to sync up your calendar you will have to buy hotmail plus. hope this helps guys

i installed outlook connector, but it said this message when i tried to access my hotmail messages

"This service is unavailable right now. Please try again later. An unknown error was encountered during a synchronization operation with the service. Some of the items might not have been synchronized."

    Is this a normal error?

otherwise, thank you for the tip/help.

it's in beta right now. So you're gonna have some problems here and there. But its better than the regular HTTP access to your account. Think about it. Glad its working now. And yes, I had some funny problems with it off and on too..

I know this thread is old, but I didn't want to start a new one.

Can you sync more than one e-mail address with Outlook? I would like to sync both my University e-mail address and my Yahoo! one.

Yep, this is definitely possible. I believe there is a link to YPOPs on the first page of this thread. Download and install (small and runs entirely in background) and you can get Yahoo mail into Outlook. No problems.

An unknown error was encountered during a synchronization operation with the service. Some of the items might not have been synchronized." Can someone plz help.

Another alternative is that you can configure gmail to automatically check the other email accounts, download them into your gmail account then when you download your gmail, you get everything. I am doing this with one other pop account that I use, and it works great. You can still send/receive the other mail accounts via gmail.

to tell you the truth, i don't remember exactly what i did. it might have been one of the settings in the hotmail account. i just recall that when i did it it initially gave me that error, and after a bit of playing around, i got it to work. if i can remember what exactly i did, i will definitely repost it to help you out.

How did you get outlook connector to work with Hotmail?

I tired Outlook Connect, but it says I need paid Hotmail account.

I've been using Windows Live Mail Desktop software for Hotmail, it is still beta I believe although I'm not sure, it is a part of Live!, and it lets me sync hotmail, plus it is also nice that when windows messenger signals that I received an email, you can click on email icon in messenger and that windows live mail desktop software will pop up instead of internet explorer...
