I have a new HP dv6000 notebook that came with Vista.
I got my router connected today and I am online now.

But I need to set up mail.
I can't find Outlook Express on the new notebook, but I found Outlook. I am very comfortable with Outlook Express; I've found Outlook very frustrating in the past. But maybe I can learn to use Outlook, if I have to.

If so, I'd like to import my address book at least. I exported it (as a *.WAB file) from the Outlook Express on my desktop computer to a usb drive. But Outlook won't import from the WAB file, only from an installed program of Outlook Express 4.x, 5.x, or 6.x.

Does anyone know a workaround to get contacts from Outlook Express on one computer into Outlook on a Vista notebook? Or how to find/install Outlook Express on a new Vista notebook?

Thank you for any help with this.

Did you purchase the machine with Office 2007? If not, then those apps, including Outlook, are likely time-bombed trial versions that will stop working at some point if you don't buy them.

In Vista, Outlook Express is replaced with Windows Mail. It should be in your start menu, and is less complex (but also less powerful) than Outlook is. For most people, though, the new mail program is more than enough, and a huge improvement over OE.

Within Windows Mail, you can import your old address book by clicking on the "Tools" menu, then selecting "Windows Contacts." Then, in the new window that opens, select the "import" button just below the address bar , and select "Windows Address Book File" from the filetype selection list, and finally click "Import." Select your .wab file and let it do its thing. You should be good to go.

    Hope that helps.

Vista uses Windows Mail. Outlook Express is dead. Look in your Programs folder.

In addition to importing contacts, can you import old Outlook Express emails into Windows Mail as well?

Thank you! I didn't notice Windows Mail last night, but that's just what I need. And I see that it can import the WAB file that I exported yesterday!

Last night, in the meantime, I discovered that Outlook (Office 2003) could import vCards, one at a time. I had created about 80 of those last year (from Palm desktop for iPod) so I slowly moved those into Outlook.

I'm looking forward to checking WackyT's links about Windows Mail too. Thanks!

Is anyone aware on how to revert their emails from Windows mail back to Outlook express or some other email porgram. I need to revert back to XP and I can't seem to find a solution. Thanks!
