My Mom is trying to download an attachment from her Comcast business email.

I have tried IE and FF, and when I go to download them, all it says is "Outlook Web Access has blocked this attachment", and it gives this error, and no other option or way of downloading it.

I tried looking around Google, but came up with nothing.

If possible, i just want Outlook gone. We have Office 2007 on the computer, but it's not installed. I don't see anything under control panel, and not really sure what the problem is.

    Any advice?

Sounds like they're using Outlook Web Access for managing email. As you've figured out, there's likely nothing wrong with your computer, it's the configuration of OWA because you do everything through the web browser.

Perhaps it found something wrong with the attachment? Or maybe the admin decided not to let people download certain attachment types? Honestly I'm stumped, sorry.

    Hi,

That's correct. What / whether file attachments can be viewed and downloaded in OWA will depend on the company's security policy (and how the Client Access Server is configured for file access within OWA). Further info here: How to Control Exchange 2007 Attachments through OWA, Part 1 .

She could try logging into OWA with security option 'This is a private computer' checked, and see if the attachment can then be viewed / downloaded.

If it works, then direct file access has been enabled for this option (i.e. security settings are less strict). If it doesn't, then either direct file access has been disabled completely in OWA, or the administrator has blocked that particular filetype from being viewed / downloaded in OWA.

Nail on the head. I actually didn't know that until I looked at what she was clicking on to manage her email.

She is using Comcast Business Class, which uses Outlook Webmail.

Her partner (small business partner) tried to contact comcast because he was getting the same thing at home, but they had no idea.

This problem is also happening on her home computer, but if you go to the office where I set up her work laptop, it works fine.

Ha, no way. When I logged in, I checked the "Private computer, keep me logged in", and I can see the attachment.

If I log out, and back in without checking that box, I can't see the attachment.

Wow, I can't believe that was the problem.
