Whenever I shut down my computer or laptop, I get an error message from outlook. Basically saying it failed. So to shutdown, I have to either close outlook first then shutdown, or click "end task" b4 it shuts off.
Anyone else has the problem?

how big is your PST file? Have you checked it for errors using scanpst? If it's large, Outlook will still be running for a bit after you have closed it.

There is no error message. Basically, if I am still logged in on outlook via hotmail connector. And I shut off my laptop w/o exiting outlook, I get the "Program Error" message. And have to "end task" b4 I can shutdown.
Basically, I have to log off of Outlook 1st before I can shutdown my laptop and desktop properly. Which is annoying. -
So you're trying to shut off your machine while Outlook is still running?

It's annoying thoug.. -
Outlook needs a little bit of time closing - it doesn't terminate like that because it wants to write the data files before completely exiting.
If you are using it with Live Mail it may want to log out to - ut I'mnot sure about it.
Basically: Close Outlook, wait a few seconds, then shut down your computer.
(PS: I'm using Outlook 2007 all the time) -
It's the same with Word, have you tried shutting down while leaving any of the MS Office apps open? they will all tell you that it has stopped responding if you try it. I don't think it's meant to be a "problem", per se, but more of a safety/cautious measure so you don't lose any work or corrupt any files. PST files are easily corrupted if Outlook isn't given time to (as mentioned by previous poster) finish writing to the file.

Outlook.exe will often stay in your task manager even if you closed the program.
