This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    So, if you suddenly find that Microsoft Outlook crashes every single time you're trying to open an HTML email, uninstall update KB3097877. It looks like this affects all Windows versions at least from 7 on up, and both Outlook 2010 and 2013. Nice job, Microsoft. Even better if you're on Windows 10, and can't prevent the update...

    rename ...old

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common

    and

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\word

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Excel

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook

    Postscript: More problem reports are pouring in. This update affects a whole host of software packages and Windows facilities, all the way to inability to log into domains and black screen crashes. Bottom line: Do not install, or if you have installed this update, uninstall it.
