Outlook no longer receiving emails from hotmail?

Not sure why, but I no longer receive any emails from my hotmail account. Ever since New Year? Is it because hotmail switched over to a "flash" base email?

I can send mails fine, but no longer receiving emails. Hard to explain..

If I hit the "send/receive" button, I only send out mails, but no longer receiving them. Not sure why it stopped working. I am using outlook connector to hook it up to my hotmail account.

 

In theory, you should be able to still use outlook connector with hotmail but then we are talking about MS and their buggy protocols. I have a paid msn email account that in theory will still work with pop3 and smtp and with some manipulation in windows mail, does. But not always. After some time I figured out that some of my messages were not being received.

In short, I don't personally trust MS with my primary emails. I have a live account and check my msn emails from messenger but I moved my primary account to gmail and told everyone that if they really want me to see their emails they better use my gmail. The nice thing is the free gmail account offers pop3/smtp support for FREE and it WILL work RELIABLY with windows mail as well as outlook. It obviously still supports http connectivity with those apps as well. I highly suggest moving to gmail and do your self a favor. I'm thinking the flashed based advertising may be at the root of your problem. Personally some of those ads on messenger were such an eye sore that I downloaded a small app that turned them off. I wouldn't normally have but it keep showing the same ad over and over with some gals gut hanging out and over with some weight loss testimony.. I had enough of that. Personally, I think MS live, msn, hotmail has never been a reliable outside their native interfaces. And with hotmail, there is absolutely no support unless you upgrade to the paid version. I believe the paid version will still allow pop3 smtp which may be what you may need to do if you really want to keep that account. But why pay if gmail will do it for free?

 

If it is outlook express, MS cut support for outlook express with Hotmail so that it forces you to switch to Windows Live Mail

 

Well the original poster is using outlook so it "should" still work in http mode. But I guess they moved to a different flash interface and maybe it does not work anymore which does not surprise me. They want you to view those ads.

Your right that windows mail does not support http format. I can't remember if express did for that matter either. I still use pop3 on my desktop with express and pop3 with my vista laptop using windows mail. My msn account still works on both machines but not reliably. There is no incentive for MS to allow one to retrieve a free hotmail account in outlook without ads.. I'm thinking they killed that support as well. And they wonder why gmail/google is more popular. Again, to the OP, if you really want that hotmail account to work then I suggest upgrading to the paid version and use pop3. I think you have 30 days to try it out or get your money back.. I tried it once but bailed out and did get a refund. The hardest thing was finding a phone number to do that.. it was not easy as I recall. MS should stick to OS's and mice.

The hotmail plus cost 20 bucks a year and it give you 20 meg attachments, no ads, and 10 gigs of storage.. If you do it make sure they still support http/pop3. http://get.live.com/en/mailplus/features

Cool.. I guess they finally got around to it then. Maybe they had to do this being the http does not work anymore in outlook? Also windows mail does not support http either so maybe MS got tired of people asking why it couldn't. Also they have to compete with gmail that DOES offer pop3 for free. Competition is a good thing.

One thing that worries me is that link shows the same server names, and ports I am already using for my qwest msn premium pop3 account.. and as I said, for me a least, is not reliable.

 

Ok, I downloaded the new version of outlook connector (ver. 12.1 - 1/5/2009) and everything is up and running perfectly.
