Why do review sites continue to benchmark using PCMARK05 on Win7 machines? I try to install this on my machines to see how they compare to the "reviewed" machines as well as compare my newer machines to my older ones. Yet Futuremark doesn't support Win7 and it doesn't work unless you go through hoops.
Hoop#1. Need to set the Visual Effects to "best appearance". Easy enough I guess. (hint: hit start, type this into the search "visual effects" and select "adjust the appearance and performance of windows").
Hoop#2. Install this old Windows Media Encoder 9. Fine, but when we click at the link provided by Futuremark's FAQ ( http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/forpros/encoder/default.mspx), this redirects to a newer Expession Encoder 4. If you use this, it will not fix PCMARK05. You have to therefore find the ACTUAL Media Encoder 9 from a random site. Ok got it to work.
Hoop#3. Vew your results online. I can't get this to work. I give up.
Trying this on two computers with Win7 Home Premium 32 bit. I've downloaded the latest PCMark05 and even tried it with the latest hotfix. I had no problems running this in the past on other computers with Vista, so maybe they broke something. Maybe it's just me.
PCMARK05 - Why the hoops?
