Hello all, I have this problem with my PCMCIA 5 in 1 memory card reader...
Every time i put in a memory card, and click the view files and folders on the pop up, my whole computer will almost lock up, to the point the mouse pointer is no longer smooth, i can not click on anything, the CPU will max out, and this will last for around 45secs to a full minute... But all the pictures i can see as soon as i open the folder even while it is running very slow. I see nothing that is is loading, for it to ma out the Cpu. There is a green bar in the address bar, that moves very slowly, and once it fulls up the whole address bar, the computer will work fine.. Once this is done, I can click on pictures, and they display instantly. I only have a few pictures on the memory card... Are there any settings or anything i should be looking at?
Thanks.

Even if you leave the PCMCIA card in all the time the drivers are probably not started till you insert a memory card. It works like that with my USB card reader at least.
Nothing you can do really. The drivers are started and the computer is waiting for the device to install and be initialized. If you can find them try finding new vista drivers. -
what would i search for? I put in a 512 memory card with 468MB used, and i went to copy everything to my computer. It took a full 4.5 mins, locked up the computer to the point i could no nothing but look at the screen, it maxed out my CPU the whole time, my temp went from 125F(52C) to 185F(85C)..... Really.... All vents are spotless, fan works fine, as you can feel the heat.
This is crazy.
It should not get this hot, just to copy 468MB worth of files. If i use the USB with the camera, not a problem... the pictures load pretty quick, maybe about 10 secs for every picture to load about 100 pictures at 3.5MB each... the CPU never even became close to maxing out, if i use the camera via USB... it took 1min and 25 secs total to copy the SAME files to the computer using the camera and USB... :O

The card is running using some old ISA link thus it'll max out your cpu for sure when you transfer data. It's probably normal.
