Howdy- anybody out there know of a laptop, or an accessory for a laptop, that would give one the ability to have the laptop wakeup from hibernation or sleep at a specified time? Thanks -Mark

    Hi playtothebeat-
thanks for the idea- I tried it, but it only works (sounds an alarm) if your laptop is powered on when the alarm time rolls around. If you put your laptop into sleep or hibernation mode, the alarm time comes and goes, but the alarm doesn't sound until you manually reawaken the laptop. I'm hoping for something that can wake a laptop from sleep mode much like a PDA is awoken from its sleep state by an alarm or a reminder for an appointment. -Mark

You're not going to find anything to wake from hibernation, in that state the computer is essentially off. With the lid closed and on standby, I'm not sure youll have much luck with that either.

You'll going to need some sort of remote waking. For example wake-over-lan, or some sort of power timer. I've seen these used in some large computer labs.

For standby, there should be programs outthere. In fact the windows, task scheduler has an option for waking the computer to do the task.

If you just leave it turned on, with hard drive and monitor stopped after x minutes it will work fine then too.

    Hi Brian, gecko, Quikster-
thanks for the input. I think I'll probably look for a laptop with extreme battery performance, and then go with something like what Quikster suggested- just close the lid and let the HD and monitor power down so that I might get 16+ hours out of the battery (maybe?) in that state, charge it up every evening. gecko- I looked into the remote wake-over-lan option a bit- do you know of any LAN cards for notebooks that might have this option? (of course even then I [presumably need to have another computer or PDA send it the wake up call, but this might work if I could do it with a PDA) By the way, another solution that occured to me but which, for obvious reasons, is a last resort: ripping open whatever laptop I end up buying and wiring up the power button to a homemade timer circuit, but that doesn't exactly sound like a weekend project to me. :p -Mark

to auto power up your computer a few minutes before your alarm.
