I need to edit a document that i have scanned. It is a pdf file and i need to edit the text and keep the same formating and font. anyone know of a program that works well? all the ones i have tried just turn the pdf into an image, rather than converting it in to text.

Scanned=Image doesn't it? There is no text to edit. You might try some kind of OCR (Optical Character Recognition) software.

And, if all else fails, you can try this procedure to, at least, take the text out of your PDF file and put into a Word doc so that it can be edited:
TO TRANSFER TEXT FROM PDF FILE TO PUT INTO AN MS WORD FILE:
Open PDF document
Go to File, Save as Text
Save as a Text File
Go to Windows Explorer and open the Text File
Copy and Paste into MS Word
(Can only copy the text, not the formatting) -

Get yourself a Professional version of Acrobat and then just use the save-as feature.

The only thing you might be able to do is scan it in as an image, and try to image edit it by copy+pasting and such. But printing it back out will be a heck of an issue.

Can't scan directly to doc file without some form of Optical Character Recognition first. Otherwise, it's just any other image. There are a few expensive OCR programs that are really good and that attempt to match the font of the scanned page. I think you're going to have a hard time executing what you want and getting an exact font readout. -
vuescan has OCR integrated, works pretty well.

Or directly from the Word Doc. Right click and Recognize Text as OCR.
